Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Frank, will the new Spektrum 6270 servo (with the jumbo plug) fit in this car? It wouldn't fit in the old car, but I know you said mounts were changed....

Seth,

We put the new 6240 in the car and it just bends the plug in over a little.

The guys at Spektrum say you need to trim the rubber grommet to make it fit right.

We did not specifically design the car to fit those servos without modification, but all other servos fit with not modification needed.

Your commitment to the cause is amazing Frank and a credit to yourself and Tlr. I have read you answer question after question on here on a regular basis and quite often repeat questions in such a short thread. I have my 3.0 on the way and hope to have early next week. No surprises expected though as every bit of information required is already out there. Thanks again.

Looks great Frank. I have a preorder in and am excited for the update after driving the first two generations for the past three years.

The driveline and suspension carryover gives a good overlap between the 2.0 and 3.0 with the most expensive portion, and bulk, of my spare parts being maintained. A great bonus for sure.

Looking forward to it....

This week, the race announcer kept calling my car the "Blue & white TLR 22 buggy with green wheels" during the race. I mean come on...

OK, to be fair, I was running green wheels, but that is NOT a 22 and it's purple. And it says Associated and B5 on it.

No matter how I look at it the 3.0 body looks like a demented chicken. Sorry . It just does. I'm not letting that stop me from getting one.

Bodies are never going to please everyone. I personally think this is the best 22 body from TLR by a long shot. I like the functional features (large cab forward windshileld) as well as it's general lines. Lots of room for stickering it up as well. Middle fin even gives it a little tunability.
