Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

@CASPER
Yes, they are both low frequency. It's really strange because the yellows that came with the car are like super soft. I should not be able to tell the difference squeezing them between my fingers but you clearly can. I also had some TLR drivers feel them and they were baffled as well. It's no big deal at all I was just curious if anyone else had encountered it. They don't feel like the kit ones from the other 3.0's at my LT

Maybe the springs were marked with wrong color. 4:45 on a Friday.

Looking at the setup sheets I noticed nobody was running the aluminum pivot or really any of the aluminum front end stuff. Does adding that stuff like we did to the 2.0 throw the weight balance of the car off? Just curious.

Looking at a recent photo of RM's car, it appeared he was running the Aluminum front camber plate.

Are the front spindles the same as the bell crank spindles from the 2.0? Looks the same but they have slightly different mold markings. I want to just change out spindles back and forth until all my 10mm wheels are done. That would be easier than changing axles back and forth.

What's the story with the "backbone" that is a separate part of the body? Seems like this would've been easy enough to mold in to the body.

It's a tuning option for the body. Fin or not. Can be secured by the four screws and nuts or some servo tape.

Well I've decided to join the club and my AE stuff is hitting the For Sale pages. 22 3.0 is on its way. Can't wait. We will call it 'peer pressure'.

New car and new track layout made for a fun night of racing here's a few clips from a qualifier and a bit of crash reel footage. Even with this kind of abuse I still haven't broken a thing on my 3.0 car yet!

edit: Rctech won't let me post the link, but if you google "TLR 22 3.0 First Day on the Track" it's the first result -- maybe someone else could post it?

You have to turn or adjust your epa for steering.
