Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Ran my 3.0 for the first time this season to blow the cob webs out. I was on the up and up end of last season, but havnt ran or read all summer. With the laydown craze, I ordered the exotek laydown along with the exotek 24g anti squat block. Just curious what people's unbiased opinions are between the exotek laydown vs the TLR brand laydown. Also what needs to be changed if anything along with exotek?

Does anyone know if other bodies besides the stock TLR 3.0 & stock YZ2 body fit the 3.0 with the Exotek laydown? Specifically the JC S2 Worlds for either TLR or Yok? Is this just a safe to assume they do fit type of thing and this is a stupid question?

Any body for the 22 3.0 will be a direct fit for the Exotek laydown because it comes with a upper gear cover.

That's not "Frank's video for the kick shim mod" - it's a link to a whole bunch of videos not the one about the kick shim mod.

No matter how many "show more"s I did, I did not see a video title mentioning the kick ship mod.

Asking seriously: does Facebook not let you link to a specific video?

I don't know if its just me, but when i installed the exotek laydown, the rear most chassis screws going into the case became too long and therefore stick out a little. But besides that, it runs well! Ive never ran the tlr laydown, but I am going to give their rear +3mm hubs a shot and see how it goes.

TLR334037 Team Losi Racing Aluminum +3mm Rear Hub Set

Just saw someone selling for $25 in the For Sale forum but of course I already ordered elsewhere for $35. Go figure.

Thanks for the input. I will look into the +3 hubs also. Can't wait to try the laydown setup!

I ran the exotek at the local carpet track last weekend with the hrc rear pivot, I didn't have time to do the kick shim mod, but it was awesome! No more traction rolling problems

Hey everyone, I pulled the trigger last weekend on the 22 3.0. I bought the lay down conversion for it as well since the only track I have ever ran is clay. I have not even opened the box to start building yet. I did however order my motor/esc combo, the Tekin RS Gen 2 with the Gen 3 9.5t motor. My 22-4 2.0 has the Tekin RSX with a 6.5t so I know this buggy will be a blast to drive.

If I want to use Dirt Laydown (TLR332063), is it meaned to use in stock chassis (TLR231036)?

Or does Dirt Laydown need Laydown Transmission Conversion Kit (TLR338004) where is diferent chassis plate included?

You need the conversion plus the dirt transmission.

Do you have a really high bite track? I think most drivers would probably be fine with the stock setup unless you're carpet or super high bite, or you're running 17.5 and you're already pushing the car's limits on corner speed.
