A friend of mine had one and neither of us could get it to cut worth beans. The problem is that the lathe bits are direction, only meant to cut in one direction, this lathe runs the bit across both directions (cut and then backfeed) and that messes up the cut.

Look for a manual lathe. I have had a Hudy for years and it is the best lathe I have ever owned. I have also had a Twister and Cobra in the past. I hear the Integy/ Eagle manuald feed lathe is a pretty good value.

Fantom, Trinity and Cobra make the best.

if you can find the fantom and pony up the $400, but it is a waste, although the fantom is the best.

cobras are really good, but save your money and get a hudy.

I've heard lots of good things about the hudy lathes. I'm going to be ordering a Hudy tech lathe with V-blocks next week.
