OK, I don't have an SC5M, but I built a midmotor mutt with my son that started with a Chuckworks Slice A6 chassis, and all aftermarket (for Slash, Rustler and SC10) parts. He will be moving up from novice to 17.5 SCT this year. We are putting the finishing touches on it for this season. He runs low grip indoor clay in low temps. The truck is a 3-gear with .85 mm front swaybar, gear diff, shocks built to bypass on rebound, sideways mounted battery, and homemade rear roll-center and anti-squat adjustment via separate toe blocks that can be shimmed up and down, or angled. The truck has plenty of steering. Oversteer and forward bite are my two biggest concerns right now. I figure on running the roll center on the rear as low as i can, but any suggestions for anti-squat? initial setup is 3 degrees. wondering if i should reduce it to aid in weight transfer out of the corners? Sorry, I don't have any scales to check corner weights

Tighten the diff screw until it is tight, but don't wrench down on it. Then unscrew the diff screw an 1/8th of a turn. That is it. This is how I've been setting up my diffs forever. Periodically, check the tightness because it will slightly loosen as the diff breaks-in.

I didn't prefer 3 Gear, hero lap was 29.8. I swapt back to 4 gear and immediately ran 28.5. In all fairness the track was drier than normal and 3 gear just didn't have the acceleration. I haven't given up on it yet. The next time the track has lots of moisture I'll give it a try.
Here's the results from today's club race. The top 4 are SC5Ms

Sorry for hijacking the SC5M thread, but my son's homebuilt is probably closest in configuration to it. Seems like all the TLR guys are using 2 degrees anti squat on the MM 22SCT on low-bite tracks, whereas the AE guys are running 1 degree. Since we're running a 3-gear, I'm thinking I need to shim 2 degrees of anti squat out of it. We built it with 3 degrees.

D4 17.5 SS
Sorry for dumb question if already posted. I have been out of it awhile so bear with me. Are folks also using the SS 17.5 D4 in the SC5M or are they mostly using the non SS version? Thanks.

3deg antisquat is definitely too much.
The AE mid platforms seem happy 99% of the time running 1* as it makes the rear end sit down off the corner.
I've tried 2* in various traction conditions and generally it stiffens the rear under compression a noticeable amount, to the point you can get more mid-exit steering if you need it, but also makes the vehicle launch differently off the jump.
1 just seems to be the sweet spot most of the time.
