Thumbs up New to trinity motors, need help / guidance please

Hello all thanks for checking this thread out and hope I don't sound like a jackass! I just purchased my first trinity d4 off of here, it's a 17.5 and it came with an aluminum timing ring and a 12.5 ht rotor installed. My questions are simple and hopefully not completely stupid. I run an sc10.2 with ball diff , mip stock class puck system , and avid centering set up in it.

1) someone please tell me this was a good choice for short course stock/ blinky class? I only have races speed passions and novaks, but after hearing so many guys boast about trinity I finally decided to given them a try.

2) like I stated it has the 12.5 ht rotor installed and has the purple to( I believe purple is for broadband range) assuming between the two the ht one is better for short course?

3) aluminum ring is good for what?

4) recommend timing ?

5) finally what kind of gearing do these thinks like? Most locals are running 22/76 or 23/75 , I was running 24/75 with the speed passion with nice cool temps.

Again all suggestions and advice are welcomed and thanks for checking this out!

Thanks
Ben

50-60 degrees timing, I believe I was geared 22x78 and changed based on temps, on a loose outdoor track.

Thank you sir, the local track is indoor clay, they do a great job keeping it consistent, I'll try that timing out to start.

There are 2 other strings on the D4 series, check them out.
But that being said.

The D4 is an excellent motor.
for SCT/ST I would run 40-50*, you can try more but you may need to dial it back.

The gearing listed is good.

When I bought my first D4 17.5 I thought it was a dog. After reading up on what the team trinity guys recommended I changed the gearing and timing to what they recommended and my cars are really fast now. The D4 needs lots of timing and rips when you gear it tall. My B5ms run 69/34 with 50 degrees of timing and my SC6 75/25 with 45 degrees.....I recommend you try that on your SC10.2.

One of the team trinity guys said 25/75 with 45 degrees is the ticket for stock SC.

Im glad to hear you like the 69/34 combo as that is what I just ordered for my b5m and D3.5 17.5. I will also set timing to 50 like you said.

Be aware the D3.5 17.5 is not ROAR legal.

Gentlemen thank you for your input! What I'm liking is that so far every one is in the same ballpark when it's coming to the timing and gearing . I like to think that's a good sign. Anybody prefer the broadband (purple) rotor over the ht ? And I'm trying to read up on these aluminum timing rings, but coming up short handed.
Again thanks
Ben

stick with HT, especially since you are using it in an SC10. Torque is better for your truck.

Alum timing ring - Reduces drag on the stator for higher rpm

As someone has previously mentioned we do have two threads for the D4 motor. The one is for the short stack motor (D4 1S Short Stack Maxzilla) and the other is for the 17.5T ROAR Spec.

In order to help keep the board organized please use these threads going forward.

Thanks!
