Since you're only seeing the plugs get hot I'd unsolder and resolder them because something about the connection is causing resistance. I'd then look at the ESC programming and reduce the current limiter. In my experience if you have it set high (80 - 100) you do run the risk of have it draw too much current and causing the solder to melt at the connector or motor or else where. my 2 cents.

You can also try using a 10 guage wire ever since i put that on my car everything felt cooler than a 12 guage

Or go to a better connector ec5, castle ect. I'm using the castle 6.5mm connectors but the 4mm would be sufficient and better than dean's.

Deans are about the best connector you can get. But make sure you are using authentic deans. Fake ones can be high resistance.

Sounds like you may be over geared. What car and gearing do you run?

TLRunner's suggestion is good. Reflow both sides of the connector so you know there aren't any cold solder joints.
If you are running above 60 A regularly, you probably should go to a connector with a higher rating. Google search says 50A continuous and 75A burst.
I have had issues with older deans not getting great contact. That can also lead to hot plugs.

Replace both the male and female plug, they do wear and you'll be fine. They have less resistance then an equal length piece of 12awg wire and can handle e-buggy no problem, they don't even draw 30a continuous

Lol, I hope you're just referring to last sentence.....deans are hardly the best connector out there.

Deans are still number 1 for a reason. Chances are that they are just worn out, or dirty and not making clean contact anymore.

How big is the battery your running? Maybe deans will be OK if your running 2s lipo but if your on 4s then the deans won't last long. I've tried lots of plugs with my 4s set ups and I've found the XT 90 to be the best. Stays cool, easy to pull apart. Deans were good 10 years ago for 6 cell

I have used Deans on my 8th scale and have seen no ill effects at all. But only run 4s with a 1900 motor and smaller track.

More voltage means less amperage, less amperage means less heat.
