Dusty Hardpack; Less caster?
 

My GT (yea, I know it's not too popular around here, what can I do) has tons and tons of steering push, regardless of my setup. I could go with red springs in the rear, green in the fronts and it will still understeer.

What I haven't changed, though, is the caster.

I figured out that with the stock caster blocks (25degs, IIRC), there's WAY too much wheel tilt under steering, the front wheels have nothing to dig into (because the track is really smooth and packed) and it just slides away.

So, under what conditions should I go with less caster?

I don't know about the GT, but as far as a know with electric trucks 25 degrees of caster is about as low as you go. Some basic things to try:

Check your servo/get a better servo. Set the endpoints for maximum travel.

Have the right tires for the track. Check out the "fast" guys and ask what tires are best.

Run through the entire truck and make sure the suspension isn't binding.

Start over with the standard setup.

Dial in drag-brake.


Just some things to try...I am sure there are GT owners on here that can give you much more detailed advice than I can. Hope you get it running well!

less caster is going to make the truck turn harder at the exit of a corner. Whereas more caster (30 degrees) will make the truck turn harder at corner entry and a little bit less at corner exit.

Stock caster blocks on a gt are 30 too, not 25. Try using the stock springs and pistons, silver up front and green in the back with 35 oil in front and 30 in back. Very rarely do you have to change the springs and pistons.

How much toe are you running? Too much toe out will decrease steering on exit and increase on entry, having toe in will do the opposite.

try putting your rear camber links on the inside bottom hole on the bulkhead if they are not already there.

Having the shocks mounted on the outside hole on the front arms can make the truck push too if not dampened right.
