The low maintenance is the reason we went with the carpet. We actually have mostly commercial type carpet with astroturf in just a few sections like the down sides of the jumps because its more forgiving than the carpet.
These pictures were taken right after we laid the carpet down so it was a little bumpy yet.

The carpet has worked out great! We used a turf that is used for mini putt-putt, there hasnt been any holes yet and the traction is always consistent around the corners. It makes for a easy change up when its time for a new layout. We are lucky enough to have a 5,000 sqft indoor track, which makes for some great layouts.

That is a tiny layout. Thank goodness for our large indoor tracks.

Traction was fine, that was the first race on the astro for myself and most of the others. Had to do some tuning through the day. Astro is not as locked in like carpet is, at least that's what I took away from it. I'll be going to that track on a weekly basis to race on Sundays.

Yeah, that is my understanding of astro also. I believe it hold up better as well.

IMO, double duty carpet tracks SUCK. Both in quality and attendance. Again, IMO.
the good thing about indoor carpet is the proximity of the fire extinguisher if you run N*vak........lol!

So I bought some pin points and you guys are saying run open cell. Are you stocking the full foam in there or are you trimming it? (if so how)

What about the front tires?

Also sounds like slicks may be more of the way to go(at local track) should I still be running open cell in the slicks?

I put the whole rear foam in. In the front you don't need to run an insert, but I've experimented and I like to run a small open cell insert. I've just cut it down and slimmed it up to fit in there nicely. I've ran slicks on carpet before and they worked pretty well. I originally did it with open cell inserts, but if I were to do it again I would definitely use closed cell inserts with slicks.

You quoted a post that's almost 6 months old, only because it's mine, and for no other reason than to throw a jab at Novak... Ya, you're cool

If you're going to be troll, do a better job. I haven't run a Novak product in 4 yrs.

Concur on full foam rear, probably no foam front.

Otherwise, if slicks are required (if they're not, buy the Schumachers from the other page and enjoy your advantage - for a week... ), MC primes on CC foam or the Schumachers themselves on open-cell ground into slicks are head and shoulders above any other slicks.

I've noticed a tendency that when an area's track(s) go carpet/turf, everyone tries to re-invent the wheel; don't unless they've found some one of a kind carpet nobody else is using. I can say firsthand that a sauced slick won't outrun an unsauced Schuie pin tire; any other carpet tire will be off the pace of those as well and anything else will be even further back. There are cumulatively hundreds of carpet setups across all the car brands over at Petitrc - I don't think you'll find one for a non-spec tire race (the EOS used PL tires as the handout a couple seasons ago and DBoots as the handouts before then) that didn't wind up on the Schumachers and that basically says it all.

A 100x50 track is tiny??? I wouldn't call that size ENORMOUS or HUGE, but tiny...?

Don't ever leave your part of the county, you may not have enough space to even turn your car on at most tracks if this is how you feel about that size track.
