Lightbulb rookie on Lipo Batteries....

Hi Guys,

Just bought a Kyosho inferno VE 1:8 and I'm delighted to learn my way through Lipo batteries and all that stuff...

I have a 14.8V LIPO battery with 4200 Mah 3.0C.
I charged it with a "Karate" charger at 4.2 Amps, naturally 14.8V (4s).

Now, I noticed one of the cells, at the beginning of the charging process was at low voltage (2.5v), all the others were around 3.8V.
At the end of the process, the cell with low voltage in the beggining presented now 4.2V and others kept being around 3.8V.

- Does this mean my battery may be compromised? Is it normal that the voltage changes this much and that is so high versus normal (3.7V)?
- If I sum the voltage of all cells, it was in something like 15.6V instead of 14.8V as indicated on the battery... Is it normal?

Other thing I noticed is that, besides the fact I chose charging at the right MaH rate (4.2A) the charger was indicating only something around 3A. I got curious also about why is that...

Finally, it took around 23 minutes to charge the battery which I understand that for a 3.0C is the normal period of time, do I get it right?

Thanks ind advance for your guidance on RC and Lipo world.

I've not a clue about it yet but love it already!

Thanks

Either the erroneous cell is really being a dud, or your charger is faulty. Try to get help from someone with a reliably charger to balance the battery, or measure the individual cells with a voltmeter. If you do the latter, be very careful not to touch the measuring pins as it can kill the battery. (A strip of insulating tape on the side of one pin is enough.)

regarding the charger, it's like mine : 4s lipo cannot be charged at full amperage because the inner power supply is too weak : so it charges at low amp at 4s, but full amps at 2s lipo...

try some charges and discharge to see how you lipo reacts...
