Default New To Offroad

Hello

I'm looking to get into some off road racing. Im new to off road but not RC. I used to race 1/10 on road nitro and some electric. Its been a while though...

So now I'm back and thinking about getting into the off road side...now I'm trying to figure out what to get. I went to my local track to see what people are running and it seems like 1/8 electric is pretty popular. So now Im looking at the Losi 8ight-E. Im trying to buy used because Ive been down this road before dropping a couple grand to get into it, not doing that again. I want to have some fun and be competitive, not win the Worlds.

How would a relative beginner do with the Losi buggy? Is it a pretty easy car to drive?

Any other recommendations?

I don't have a 8IGHT but I can say that it mostly comes down to personal preference anymore. Get whatever you can easily get parts for and get lots of track time in

Yup. That's one of the few RTR's that's actually Race Ready too.

I agree with this. Should be easy to get parts. As off road is really really easy to break..

My opinion would be tekno or kyosho, maybe mugen, I've never driven a mugen but I've only heard good things about them. I also wouldn't rule out 1/10 scale, just sayin....

good point. I think it's always best to start out with 2wd 1/10. Also, parts are way cheaper for 1/10 than 1/8.

Thanks guys. The RTR does look pretty nice. Its some thing that can be competitive? Even though Im new to off road Ill have to race with seasoned vets. I know it will take me some time to learn but I need to at least be competitive.

Im trying not to buy new. For me to throw a truck or buggy on the track brand new will be at least 1200.00. However, I havent totally ruled it out. If I go that route it will be the B5M.

Check out the for sale forum on here or you may be able to find something on consignment at your lhs. You're not going to find the losi 8ight-e used since it's not out yet. (I don't think they have an older version, do they?)

I would say to strongly consider 1/10. I guarantee its a lot more fun than you expect. And you can have your dream b5m for about the price it will cost you to get going in 1/8. Not to mention 1/8 tire prices are crazy.
Personally, even if money was not an issue, I would still race 1/10.
