I have about 6 2s packs through it. I was nearly done with a 3s pack when it smoked... It was a huge cloud. Does this esc not have an over temp shut down? It should......

I looked at the tower hobbies manual for the Speed control part# TOWM3000
it just says "LiPo cutoff 6.4v" nothing about 2s or 3s

so it safe to say stick with 2s for a long ESC life

Yeah says nothing. I emailed Tower, they didn't know.... But its safe to say with the 17/54 and a 3s, watch your ESC temps...

I think to run the 3s you have to stick with the stock 11/62 or 11/54 due to the ESC temps.

now the HPI Timberwolf which is what this car is, under the specs it lists
"Waterproof 80A Brushless ESC - 2S or 3S capable "

And in the Timberwolf manual here is what it states for the ESC:

MSC-29BL-80WP Features:
1. Water-resistant* and dust-proof. The ESC has been designed to
work in wet conditions.
a.*Please remove the cooling fan when using the ESC very wet conditions.
b.*After using the ESC in wet conditions, please clean and dry it to avoid
the oxidation to copper connectors
2. 2-3S Capalable (for 3S you must change the standard 5V
cooling fan to a 12V cooling fan, or supply the 5V cooling fan from
the receiver 5-6V);
3. Compatible with sensorless brushless motor.
4. 3 running modes (“Forward with brake” mode,
“Forward/Backward with brake” mode, and “Rock Crawler” mode).
5. Proportional ABS brake function with 4 steps of maximum brake
force adjustment, 8 steps of drag-brake force adjustment.
6. 9 Punch modes from “Soft” to “Very aggressive” to be suitable for different chassis, tires and tracks.
7. Multiple protection features: Low voltage cut-off protection for Lipo or NiMH battery / Over-heat protection /
Throttle signal loss protection / Motor blocked protection.
8. Easily programmed with the “SET” button on the ESC or with the LED Program Card.

Model MCS-29BL-80WP
*Continuous Current 80A
*Burst Current 540A

Replacement esc is in! Different than the stock one, has overheat protection mentioned in the manual! But still needs a fan swap for 3s.
I think I will get the parts to power the fan from the receiver.

Damn, email them. They forgot to ship mine when they got the order in apparently. The replacement seems like a nicer unit. Has a decent manual anyway...

First post on the truck. Out of the box I thought it would have more speed. Reading through the threads here we changed to the optional spur it came with and changed the pinion to a 14t. It went from 22mph to 32mph (Used a phone GPS). So much faster. It was night and day. So far we have had the bumper break twice. It just rips out of the bottom two screws. Has anyone found a workaround? I guess workaround 1 will be to not nosedive at the track as much .

I did the same thing went to a 14t pinion and swapped out the installed 62t spur and used the optional 54t. Huge difference in speed. Great truck.

I ordered all the parts to make 2 center diffs for a quick swap out, one set running the stock 11 p 62 s, and an optional 15 p 54 s for Speed.
I love the speed of the 15p 54s gives, but the 11p 62s has better small area handling, Now I can easily swap out depending on the area I'm bashing in or racing.
Both center diffs are running 300,000 wt oil, its VERY thick, but it helps keep the 4x4 always engaged, great for rough terrain.

Also as an upgrade I bought the ProLine 2017 Raptor body, it look GREAT!!! I'll post up some pictures when I get a chance.
the only Mod I had to do to make it fit was add extensions for the front body mounts, and quick and simple mod ($3.00 on Ebay.)
