Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum.
I just received a Cutback for Christmas, I'm running it with a 2c 25s 4000 lipo, and a 2c 35s 5000 lipo, it runs and handled very good, not as fast as my sons Stampede 2wd VXL.
So after reading the posts here, I decided to change the Spur gear with the optional one and a 15t pinion gear, I noticed when I went to change out the Spur gear the center Diff was dry, just very little grease to almost no grease, so I never did change the spur yet, I took the diff apart, and cleaned it, and reassembled it and added 5000 wt oil, now it runs very quite, and smooth.
I ordered the parts to build a 2nd center diff for quick swap outs, and after reading here, I also ordered the front and rear sway bars, I also ordered Firm springs, the ones now are too soft, all should be here by next week.

I also re did the shocks 2 days after I got the car, they fell apart internally, I redid them with 35w oil.

I may be doing some "tearing down" of sorts myself. I am contemplating on swapping out the 62t spur with the 54t spur.

Swapping the spur is a must huge difference with a bigger pinion

Do it. And fill the center diff with some heavy wt oil. I put 125k in mine. May do a million in the front. The inside front wheel diffs out pretty good on tight turns.

My car is only 2 weeks old, and I already took it apart to work on the Diff's, all 3 were Dry with very little grease.
I tore them apart and cleaned everything and filled them with 5000 wt Diff oil, its like day and night!!.

as for changing out the Spur, here are some calculations I have made to determine what gearing to use.
Stock Ratio 62t Spur and 11t Pinion 32 pitch
5.6:1
Optional 54t Spur and Stock 11t Pinion
4.9:1

here are the rest I did, to use the following pinion gears, you must use the 54t spur gear (no room for adjustment with the 62t spur)

54 Spur 13t Pinion = 4.15:1
54 Spur 15t Pinion = 3.6:1
54 Spur 17t Pinion = 3.17:1

if someone needs to buy the gears, here are some part numbers I got also.
13t 32pitch 3mm shaft (Axial AX30724) or (Traxxas 3943)
15t 32pitch 3mm shaft (Axial AX30726) or (Traxxas 3945)
17t 32pitch 3mm shaft (Axial AX30728) or (Traxxas 3947)

This truck is a HPI Timberwolf, on HPI's site they sell optional 13t and 15t pinions in the UK only

I hope this info helps.

here are some pictures I took while working on the diffs

I have read that the heavier the oil the better for the center diff, I only had 5K, I heard of people using 10K, my local hobby shop said 30k would be ok also for a center diff. on a 4x4, I guess its trial and error.
