I think it's a gen 2... it has the gray motor and black esc. Like I said, it's not horrible like some other cars but it feels slow... but it could be due to the fact that the only cars I run these days have aftermarket servos.

Ya it is probably a gen2 then, as that is the motor and esc. And ya, for RTR equipment it isn't bad but compared to the really good aftermarket stuff, it is slow. It is for sure something I will replace down the road but I can live with it for now.

Thank you. I'm just using the stock spur; I am not aware of a drop-in replacement CD with smaller spurs; 8ight CD does not fit. For higher gearing for speed-runs, making a spool seems the best option. More info, incl. how-to video on spool here: Optional Spurs for Arrma 1/8 cars- - ARRMA RC Forum @ URC Forums

Good luck!

I actually got in contact with VOltage and their towers for the Typhon actually are supposed to come out today lol. Good timing. But ya, bare metal finish should be available today and the red, some time next week. So I will grab a set of those and then maybe I can do some tweaking on the set-up, down the road. Thanks again for the heads up.

My understanding is that Arrma uses the same servo for V1 and V2. But the BEC for the V1 red BLX180 is 7.2v, and the BEC for the V2 hobbywing rebrand BLX185 is 6.0v. Same servo, less voltage = slow. With my V1 Talion, I was actually kind of impressed with the servo, at least until I moved it to a different car, with a 6.0v. Then it was way too slow...

Good info. I wasn't really sure what the deal was on the servos between the 2. For some reason the V1 Talion seemed slow and I replaced quickly with the Savox. On the Typhon it doesn't seem bad. I will likely run it until I decide to upgrade or until it breaks.

Here is mine btw

The numbers on the steering servo are 208oz/in at 7.2v and a speed of .14. Both good numbers for a stock servo but even the waterproof Savox I put in my bashers is over 300oz/in. Like I said I'm just used to faster.

Still really good numbers though for a stock servo.

my V1 talion servo lasted about a month.
The newer versions are great for the buggies but the truggy tires are to heavy...
truggies need beefy servo's.

Yes that is a good point. I'm sure the big truggy tires made the Talion servo seem slow, but on the Typhon it doesn't seem as bad. The Tessman servo in my TLR is pretty fast, for a truggy. I like it, probably the same as what you are experiencing with your's @Zinergy.

thinking of grabbing one of these. If I do the medium 16 tooth spur option, I guess it'll do about 55mph on 6s? good for dirt?

I ordered it. Used $40 off coupon and it'll be three Easy Pay payments of $130. I don't really think I could go wrong with that. Bought a few 3s SMC 6700 batteries too, so that should be fun. Some youtube people are getting between 55mph and 65mph on the 16t pinon, which I believe is the middle one that it ships with correct? Are those different speeds just based on battery quality?

10mph is a pretty big swing for just different batteries with same gearing and cell count. I would think 55 vs 65 both running 6s would mean there is a gearing difference also. But yes on 6s the typhon with a 16t will do right around 60mph I would guess on 6s.

If you're track racing 4S will probably be better but if you're just bashing you can't beat 6s.

For anyone who is interested, I ordered a set of the shock towers from Voltage Hobbies, that were recently released for the Typhon. They are very impressive-looking in person. I ran the car last night for the first time. Makes the car look much more 'racey' and for sure will be more durable, I would think.
