Interested in getting a good shock and spring set up for the X factory on Cali indoor clay.

I was told by Paul from xfactory and Jason S. that the Carbon chassis would help most in a stock class, because of the weight reduction. However when I actually weighed the two to see the difference it wasn't a lot, but I guess every thing helps. Paul told me it would also help in a mod class if I made it stiffer, where Jason told me it would flex to much for a mod class. So hard to say as one does reviews and seems to know a lot, and one is a xfactory engineer who is trying to sell a product.

looking at some pics of cav's t5m and b5m. it seems he removes the plastic brace right behind the servo. is this done to increase flex, open up room on the chassis, save weight, etc?

Probably increase flex and open room on chassis. They also remove the plastic between the screws on the rear of the cradle under the waterfall. This really helps with flex.

I am building a homemade track for myself. I plan on running a few stadium trucks. I like the idea of gear diff being maintenance free compared to ball diff. Would it be more beneficial for me to buy a T4.2 and upgrade it or buy a T5M and buy a gear diff. I don't have the time to mess with ball diff adjustments and rebuilds.

I have done it on my B5M and T5M. Holding and flexing the chassis side to side is a noticeable difference. Having flex is good.

This pic is from Spencer Rivkin's FB page of his B5M, notice the middle sections of the cradle and nose piece have all been removed. This will give the lateral flex and additional room.

So he just chopped out the middle bits. I can see that creating more wanted flex, whereas having the full "cage" in there makes the car too stiff.

He also cuts the middle rib out of the rear waterfall.

I have had it like that for a year. Hartson started it with cutting the braces to emulate the flex from the Centro car.

In reality the gear diff requires maintenence as well.
Outside I would suspect low to very low traction? Go T4.2 unless you have great clay mix dirt.

I went with the square packs when I built mine, and I see Ryan's had the shorty packs, that is the only place I can see gaining any room removing the cross ribs. With mine I would only gain A 1/16 or so. but with a shorty pack I can see lots of room gained. My batteries fill the whole battery area except for maybe 6-7 mm front to back. And my batteries are brand new with 1 race day on them so I'd hate to sell them to take a loss and by shorty packs to go this way. but if it helps a lot I might have to.
