Budget esc HW SCT pro. But in the motor just bite the bullet and buy a tekin t8 1900. They are an investment that will outlast any of your cars and you can rebuild them for $40 should there ever be a issue but the won't be cause they last forever!

I'd go the other direction... Get a high quality ESC and then go for a Trackstar motor (or other import brand). Folks in my area have good luck with the Tekin RX8 or Viper VTX8. In my experience the ESC is more likely to fail. Put your money in one that you can get good service on.

I'm going to do a HW SCTPro since I love the combo in my SCT410 with either the Turnigy Trackstar or a used Tekin T8.

I think that's the way to go! Get a used t8 for 50-80 put new bearings in it and your good to go.

I just switched this season to hobbywing from tekin. For 86$ vs 190$ for a esc it's a no brainer if on a budget. You just need to add a 20$ BEC if you plan to run high voltage servos. The rx8 gen2 can adjust voltage to servo out of the box. I have never tried the motors but 5 races in and not a hiccup on both the sct pro and the 150amp in my ebuggy. I still run all tekin motors but I will be testing the hw motors soon.

Hobbywing xerun 150 and 2250 motor combo. Best bang for the buck. Can be run in buggy or truggy.

Yep. That's what I started with. Brilliant combo for the money which you can race with as well as bash. I recently upgraded to the Tekin RX8 Gen 2 with T8 gen2 1900 combo and I have to say it's in a different league!

If on a budget get the HW combo, you won't be sorry you did!

Out of curiosity why do people choose the sct pro over the 150a? Any particular reason? I only ask because I need to pick up another one for truggy. I could put my 150a in ebuggy into truggy and run sct in buggy. But other than the larger footprint why go with a lower amp esc?
