The fact that most tracks here are oriented for 1/8 scale means that 1/8 is what most people buy only furthering the gap. We have a good track for 1/10 where people show up with them but it is very far north out of town. I'm not seeing a 1/10 revival just for 4wd stadium trucks. Not here at least. I'm depressed about things as is since I'm exclusively 1/10, mostly 2wd, and not finding rc all that fun here anymore. 1/8 is too expensive and way too heavy for me to want to get into. I've actually never been a fan of stadium trucks with their goofy balloon tires but I've got to admit that the sound of a 4wd version actually sounds kind of fun.
Fred you really should come out to the north track at least once.

There's an ebb and flow to this that I've seen over the years. 1/10 seems to surge when access to large enough plots of land becomes a problem. The kit makers clearly see a surge in 1/10 happening given all the new releases we've been seeing the past 2 years.

fredswain is seeing the opposite around Houston so that indicates that land is easy to get access to. Here in Wisconsin, there are now as many indoor 1/10 tracks within a 3hr driving radius of where I am as there are outdoor 1/8 tracks. Even 5 years ago it was very different though (many 1/8 tracks, few 1/10 tracks).

I'd like to. I'm just so busy with family and work. I also live in Clear Lake which is opposite side of the world. I'm always right near MM but no one likes racing 1/10 there. The current track is great for it but the 1/8 scale guys, their primary users, are crying about it. Racing may not be in the cards for me for a while. It'll stay a side hobby.

yes, I said it

with a 1/8 you need no upgrade, you can be 1st with cheap electronics, cars are way more durable, easier to maintain..

everyone keeps saying 1/8 ebuggy is expensive while in the long run it must be one of the cheapest category to run & race.. only cheaper category would be any 1/10 2wd

bigger isn't always more expensive, especially when you race

you can drop 800$ in a 1/12 pan car for practice and be ready to win with a 400$ 1/8 buggy so the scale isn't the only factor
You don't need to upgrade anything to run 1/10. Most people just enjoy spending money. They wouldn't be unreliable if people would stop building huge tracks with massive jumps that are catered to the fastest motors. 1/10 was always about finesse. Everyone wants brute force today.

How about the class of RC tanks equipped with soft air cannons? I could see some fun potential in that one.

They also need to be fast enough to clear triples.

JConcepts tried that already...see the J82. Cool car, fun to drive, but it never caught on.

I wouldn't count that. It's kind of like the Backslash conversion. It's making a 1/8 scale buggy out of a 1/10 truck. I actually would have thought that idea would have taken off but neither did outside of the basher community.

Yeah, a stadium truck with buggy style tires and body wasn't really 1/8. I'm thinking 3s systems , huge shocks , about 7lbs, truggy rear tires , 1/8 buggy fronts, mod 1 gears.

Where did you get the body ?

TBG repro of the Losi Heavy Metal body. Losi offered a truck body conversion for the XX4 in hopes that a heavy metal, as they called it, class would develop. It never did. This was before SCT took off.

I don't 100% disagree, but the mentality of the 1/10 purist, and the mentality of the 1/8 racer are opposite! If we ran our 1/10 on bigger tracks the manufacturers would follow suit with something beefier! A lot if the newer 2wheel buggies already look largely 1/8. Much beefier than there previous offerings! Much more adjustment than before! 1/10 hasn't been pushed to jump and perform at an 1/8 level! I think there are limits, but most of the 1/8 tracks around me, I would run my buggy on! There aren't many tracks around that have huge air or impassable terrain!
In the end as it should be the cars are designed for thier end user!

running 1/12 pan cars and 1/8 ebuggy... I like finesse in 1/8 buggy also so don't conclude things too fast I've seen brutal drivers in 1/10 scale and very smooth drivers racing 1/8 truggies

again this has nothing to do with the scale
