I have run the truck on low and medium grip outdoor clay. I went to the buggy rear hub and pink rear springs. And on high grip the blue (or purple) is the way to go. The truck flies over jumps wonderfully and rotates turns like a buggy. With the right tires I found that I could " throw" the truck around very aggressively and the truck appeared smooth. I won a club race yesterday very convincingly at my local track. First time racing the truck. It should be a real winner!
Hm... that sounds a lot like the 22SCT, then. I thought the handling of this truck was more balanced out of the box. Do you have a part number for the hubs?
The truck is very balanced out of the box but not everyone drives the same or on the same conditions. This was a tuning option recommendation not a must have to be race ready.
It may be a good tuning option but I don't think many people are doing it. I actually thought the hubs were the same. Some use the SC front hubs on the buggy but I'm not doing that either.
The rear hubs on the SCT and Buggy are very different.

I know a lot of guys do to tame the front end down. However I think the way your truck is set up now with the buggy rear hubs you could probably run with out it,maybe just a stiffer front spring like Green. This should give you an increase in steering.

I ordered greens and purples from desoto last nite. Also I am going to do some slick track testing this week.

Have you figured out what it is about the buggy rear hubs that makes the SCT's rear track better? Do they have a different caster angle? Width? Camber link holes? Just curious about the noticeable difference in handling.

They lower the position of the axle which raises the outside of the camber link. Im sure with this change in the geometry there is a lot more going on by doing this but im not an engineer by any means.

Is this truck tough enough to handle my 6 year old in Novice?

I have owned an SC10.2 and 22SCT. In my opinion I would say the 22 SCT was a tough truck.

Where does this truck rank with 22SCT in terms of breakage? What spares should be kept on hand?

I think they're comparable, but the Serpent wins on maintenance and race day annoyances:

Gear Diff: While the 22SCT has a gear diff, it's not as well constructed (sealed) as the Serpent. If you go gear diff, Serpent wins hands down. If you go ball diff, I also think the size of the balls helps with longevity of that diff.

Rod ends: 22SCT has ballcups, and while they re-engineered that somewhat, and also have a new bellcrank with horizontal ballstuds, I would think they may still be an issue with a youngster driving .. especially as the balls wear. With the captured ends, the Serpent wins this one too.

Shocks: 22SCT wins out of the box on this one since the SRX's seep out of the o-rings. However, upgrade to Kyosho (or Traxxas) xrings and you should be good.

The original (1.0) 22SCT shocks leaked all over the place. The 2.0 shock parts (which fit the 1.0 shocks) make them pretty leak proof and great. So, yes for 2.0 out of the box, not so much for 1.0.

I never really had a problem with either my first gen SCT or buggy, but they both did come with normal o-rings for those versions so I can see why they could. So, maybe a tie on this one.. I do definitely like the the changes they did on the shocks though.
