Durango Stadium truck Slipper Problem

I recently got a used ST off of here and finally got an ESC and Servo for it.. so I set it up and when I tried to set the slipper by holding the back wheels the metal plates that hold the pads got super hot.

I'm using a 87 spur and 21T pinion. my gear mesh has play like it's supposed too.. so any advice would be killer

I also checked the diff and idler... I actually put a brand new gear diff in so I don't think it's anything with that

Friction =heat, I would tighten it so it doesn't slip as much

Yes it's easy to overdo the hold the wheels and throttle slipper test. Use only quick blips, don't hold the throttle. Only a couple times before letting it cool off.

Ideally it should just be a check and final tweak. It's better to get in the habit of turning the spur with your thumb first. Setups vary, but generally it should be fairly difficult to turn the spur. With some experience you should be able to get it close before using the throttle as a final check. If using a ball diff it can also be used to help check that the diff is tight enough and not slipping, with minimal diff damage if it does.
