Default The rise and fall of the Truggy class...

So what happened? After they killed off the monster truck class, lots of people thought they were going to be the biggest thing since sliced bread. But over the last few years truggy has had a huge decline. Heck, even Amain sells a whole TWO truggy kits now. Everyone flock to 4x4 SC instead?

I'm hoping it comes back a bit. There are lots of great options as far as vehicles go.

It's growing huge here in Houston. And with the release of the tekno I'm sure it will grow even more.

Tekno is coming out with a truggy. ET48 (Electric) and NT48 (Nitro) I wouldn't call the class dead yet. I think it will always be a niche class though.

TLR will be announcing the 3.0 truggy soon. I just hope the conversion kit still works, I don't see TLR making a electric specifictruggy kit like they did the buggy. I hope it comes back, I enjoy running truggy.

Id guess.. 2 major things.. #1 brushless & lipo #2 2wd SC took off and is now the most popular class at most tracks; that said layouts are now based to have a good 1/10 flow and allow for good racing. If you have the urge for more power like you said, it's an easier upgrade to get to a reasonably close in speed pro4 which at many if not most track's just happens to be the 2nd largest class. So with that much speed and power and knowing that racers race what other racers race, if you know what I mean.. it had to lead to a decline in some areas. ST is totally dead, 2wd buggy is nearly dead for outdoors at most tracks, and Truggy turnout has dropped.

Now I wouldn't say Truggy is dead or will be, but you can further divide this as now ebuggy is starting to get way more popular I'd say nitro buggy tends to still have larger turn outs but that varies a lot by race and local ordinances and if you are indoors or out.

Lots of scattered thoughts, all contribute.. One last thing to consider $$$'s Truggy is by far the most expensive class to run, nitro or electric it adds up fast.

That said locally we have at least a full heat of Truggies (mixed nitro/electric) most nights and often on weekends 2 heats.. large races obviously still get ridiculous turn outs (pro-series etc).

I think it partly has to do with Lipo rules for most. Running 4S in a truggy just not the best idea and the sanctioning bodies don't allow for anything above 4S. So much strain on electronics with a heavy truggy and 4S. Same as SC4x4 on 2S with 4 pole motors and high KV motors.

I can agree with that, truggy should be 5-6S and 4x4 SC should be 3S in my opinion.
