I've done extensive testing on the RM side with 1.6, 1.7, 3x1.4 flat, but have never tried the tapered pistons. I'm curious, in general, what the difference between the 3x1.4 tapered and flats are like if anyone has tried them?
3x1.4 is just my starting point since the latest team setups use them and they're hands down my favorite piston. I have some big jumps on our outdoor track so I don't want the 1.7s, and the traction can get pretty low when the sun is out and it gets loamy, so 1.6 or 3x1.4 is what I'll be on. I prefer the damper steps in shock oils that the 3x1.4s provide, but I'll keep the 1.6s on the short list.

I hear you on max brakes at your finger tips but the brake force setting is a big tool and part of the reason why the orion ESC is the best on the market... smooth brakes. I've never felt smooth brakes with the 100% Brake force setting. Perhaps you have a different driving style than me.. but i have to imagine you cant use mid corner brakes to get the rear end to come around with a 100% setting.

I will probably get some kickback on this comment but just want to throw this out to all of you.
I own the following offroad AE cars, Rc8.2e, B4.1, RC10 4X4 and now the B5M.
I was always been impressed at Associated's quality, engineering, build plans, but have some criticism on the B5M.
I know it is great to save weight, reduce size but I think the AE crew went too far with the B5M. The 2 biggest problems I have encountered are ones which do not have to be given just a little more room in the chassis and a little more height on the body.
1. If the front area were just a little bit wider, perhaps 10-15mm, I would not have had to buy an extra small reciever to fit along side the ESC.
2. If the body height had been just 10mm higher, I would not have be installing the low profile 4mm battery bullets to keep wire height down so I can fit the body far enough down to velcro it to the sides of the chassis.
I know many will say the engineers put a lot of work into design, but would just a little larger area in these places REALLY matter that much in performance? I am disappointed in how I needed to buy unnecessarily different parts to accommodate this recent build.

There are certain airflow characteristics they are looking for when designing the body. I feel your pain as i had to buy a micro receiver to make it all work. but let me tell you that if your a racer im not aware of a better 2wd on the market currently. i own a 22 2.0 and an RB6 and i prefer the B5M. It drives and lands so much smoother than anything that its comforting to drive.
If your that worried about space look into buying a pro-line phantom body, they have a bit more clearance. I hope you enjoy the car

I find that running saddles in mod with an 8.0 is much better than a shorty and going light.
