To each their own capt. I just have had crumby luck with servos and ESC doing weird things and never had an issue with savox but i dont run spektrum stuff either. Savox stuff is a little noisy but you cant beat the price and I havent been able to break one. My buddy just sold his m12 to buy a spektrum DX4R pro and all that spektrum radio does is glitch and he doesnt run savox servos. He runs their servos and still just glitch glitch glitch.

Any reccomendations for a motor and gearing for 17.5 blinky? This will be my first venture into this class (indoors, med clay track). I run my 4.2 outdoors in mod.

I run a Savox on a Spektrum system without trouble at all!
In my opinion they are just as good as any of the "high end" servos I have ran in the past... Comparing specs and $$$ they can't be beat.

IMHO Futaba is over rated...

I was curious what 17.5s you guys were running. I'm partial to speed passion but have looked at trackstar (rebadged reedy?), reedy and lrp. I would like to keep it around $60-70.

I run a R1 Wurks myself. Reedy is very good!
For the money a guy could get 2 trackstars and gear that badboy crazy since they are so dang cheap!

such an ill advised comment. i have been running savox servos amd spektrum radios for years. NOT A SINGLE ISSUE.. the only.issue I seen anyone have is if they are running castle... and well castle isnt a huge choice for racing. amd its only an issue because castles internal bec's are notriously weak.

Just to chime in about the Savox servo debate.....they are fine. Snobby racers whine about all they noise they make but I've never actually seen one go bad other that than the low profile versions. I think the 1251 is useless for an offroad car but the 1257 & 1258* are the best you can buy for the money. I use them myself as well as RSXs and some Futaba servos. Now that most ESCs are designed to work with more power hungry servos there is no practical reason why you couldn't use one. In the old days they had brown out issues but that's in the past.
I agree with you on the 1257 & 1258 servos being good, although they can be noisy at times, I've run both models over the course of the last year wothout a single failure. One of our cars also runs a Spektrum radio, with a Savox servo and we don't have any issues. I also run some Hitecs without issue.

I have had issues in the past with the Savox and brown outs though (not always) and had to add a programable Castle BEC to fix the issue and that's because we were using a Castle ESC.

So I guess all those people that I seen have issues with Savox servos and Spektrum receivers (mainly 201 and 301) was just a figment of my imagination? You must be one of the lucky ones and I bet you have to run a cap on your receiver.

The new ION5s are fantastic. Ran the new ION5 for the first time in TC over the weekend, and they are fast and super smooth. however, they are not 60-70 bucks This is what I will be running in my B5m.

A couple other benefits I have found to be nice are:

1) you can get to both endbell bearings without tearing down the motor
2) the motor is open enough that I think you could completely clean the motor without ever taking it apart
3) the curved and 90 degree bent solder tabs are nice

I have a couple of Fantom Pro and Team Spec motors. They are ok. I didnt like them in RM cars because the trinity cans dent so easy. For MM they are fine though. The shafts were a little long and rubbed my gear cover.
