Just looking for insight into known issues or flaws. Trying to decide between the vtx10r, hobbywing v3.1, or orion r10. The price of the orion program card is ridiculous though
how the mip puck drive bi metal for a stock b 5 m kit I have a fantom 17.5 a pex works motor

LRP, SP, Tekin and viper.
So far i am liking the viper the best. I have nor run a 3.1 and have driven cars with the orion before.
What i really like about the viper is the price and the adjustability. They are easy to setup and make changes on, smooth, run cool and just work for me the best in 2wd.

hobbywing v3.1 - best esc I have ever run. I am running the stock spec 3.1 right now, and it is fantastic. Smoothness of throttle and brake response is the envy of all others... The programing card IS required in order to do anything on the ESC... however, the programing card is pretty cheap. Downside to this ESC, is that programing with the card is less than completely intuitive. Took me a bit to figure out how it all worked (i.e. downloading firmware from their website, getting it onto the card, and setting the esc to a standard blinky mode setting)
orion r10 - I have used this ESC extensively on mutliple platforms. Solid ESC, doesn't feel quite as good as the hobbywing, and it's brakes are inferior. The orion programing card does cost more, BUT... you can program all your basic functions on the ESC itself. The card isn't required. I will have 2 or 3 of these for sale any day now.
My vote is certainly the HW3.1

Vipers - they have a good feel and are very tunable. The pro gauge is pretty nice and not costly. Viper also has a military discount program. 30$ off their web price. They are small and fit in the B5 very nicely. All of my vipers developed an issue when landing jumps after like 6-12 months. They would reboot. Performance wise they are very smooth on the power and very tunable, but after running the orion i have to say the brakes are not the best.
Orion r10 - Great ESC, best breaks of the many brands I have run. The SS firmware does make a 17.5 quicker and have more grunt. The program box is stupid expensive, but you can use a laptop and the hobbyking usb link to program it. It is powerfull enough for a 2wd buggy or a 4x4 sct truck running a 4 pole motor. The switch and cap piss me off. They put a stupid plastic cover on the cap and switch that make it a pain to put in the limited space of todays 2wd cars. I actually put a HW switch on my orion, removed the plastic case on the caps and used shrink tube to cover it.
HW v3.1 - This is a very good esc. The stock SPec is all you need for a 2wd or even 4wd buggy. And the price is very good at $129ish. The program box is around $30, much less than the $95 for the orion box. The support on RCtech is much better than the orion. It has an onboard switch, which is nice for the B5M and you can turn the car off, by holding the brake. Performance wise, it is right there with the Orion R10, but it has much more tuning options. It is only 100amp and i would not put it in a sct 4x4, but otherwise it is fine for 10th scale. The biggest grips I have about this esc is: If the switch fails, you are done. And I dislike the solder posts on the side. I prefer solder posts on the rear.

Thanks, those are the reply's I was looking for. I know a few who run the viper in 4x4sc and have developed problems. I'll have to look into the hobbywing stock spec esc as stock class is dead in this area so I'll be running 8.5 to 10.5 motor probably.

the stock spec is good down to like 5.5 turns. So you will be fine.

The stock spec is still the esc you will want to run. I would only bump up into the 160A version of the 3.1 if running a super low turn mod motor in either 4wheel offroad, or touring car onroad. For everything else, get the stock spec. Can't beat the price.
selling the design? I saw the product on sale for $15.99.
The ADI B5M Chassis Brace 25mm Fan Mount 3D Print, #10037, is made in-house, from ABS plastic, with our Stratasys 3D printer. Most 25mm fans can be mounted to this 3D printed chassis brace. A 3rd party body must be used to ensure proper clearance of the fan. The stock body will not fit properly without modifications.

not according to FB. Alton said white only for now. I am running mod right now with my MM, so I dont need a fan anyway. And it just looks terrible in white. I used to dye my plastics back in the rc10 days, I have no desire to do that again. Nor would I paint it as alton suggested

I run the HW Stock Spec V3.1 in my B5M in stock class and now I run one in 2wd mod truck. The HW beats the Viper ESC all day long, in my opinion. It's easier to work the program box and it feels like a more powerful, more consistant ESC, to me atleast.
After running an SMC RF-160 in my new B44.3 I plan on grabbing another one for my B5M. 5 minute races with a 7.5T and no fan. I had to keep my finger on it for a few seconds to feel that it was even warm to the touch. Easy to calibrate and program with the included USB adaptor or $10 box. I normally use LRP SXX or Flow and it has just as nice feel to it.
