Hey, just recently got my b5m on the track and it is loud! My diff is smooth and motor is brand new. Can't be the mesh as I checked that multiple times.

After I put the slipper eliminater and aluminum top gear on the car the noise seems to be louder..I could here my car over the SC trucks on the track yesterday

If it's always noisy it's probably gear mesh as you guessed.
Two things about it:
- Check the mesh with a least one or two spur revolution. The mesh could be good at one position not the others (the spur is not always spot on center and the .1 or .2mm offset will fool your mesh)
- Not all pinion are made equal. I have different brand of pinions some are noisy some not (narrow ones especially are noisy).

i'm not sure if there are driving differences...but i prefer ball diffs because they are easy to make quick adjustments. but i'd say ball diffs require more maintenance (buying new balls, sanding the plates, etc) and cost than a gear diff. gear diffs are solid though. once you find the right fluid...they are tough and last a long time!!

when i say gear diffs are less maintenance, i mean once they are setup up...you don't have to mess with them for a while. but to get to the gear diff and make adjustments is a lot more work than adjusting a ball diff

i run on a small medium/loose track and after the initial setting on the ball diff...i had to tighten it up a little after running a little while and it's perfect! since i switched to a ball diff years ago, i'll probably never go back (unless it's for a basher)

here's a video of our track

I had to link to your tracks website to see if it was dirt or brown carpet.
