They aren't really needed...and JC doesn't make titanium hinge pins.

I'd consider a slipper upgrade (Schelle or Avid) quite useful, since the stock one is not exactly what I'd call a highlight.

Default 17.5 Battery?

Based on peoples feedback here and at the track I was going to get a SMC shorty but I wouldnt get it till after Christmas and since the B5M is a gift for my son I need something sooner. I was looking at one of these below since they are also pretty light but I wanted the groups feedback and any other recommendations.

I can't post a link yet but these are sold at A Main.

I have tried these Vant shorty batteries from Barn Floor RC and love them. Good price, great performance and the shipping is instant. Use coupon code ILLTRYVANT for additional discount and free shipping.

Default Indoor Clay Tires for a Cold Temp Medium Grip Track?

What you recommend for a medium grip indoor clay track for 17.5? Dirt webs in the clay compund (Gold) seem popular but this track is in Michigan (Dirt Burners) and they keep the place very cold so I would think maybe a softer compound might be better (Silver)? I was also thinking about the Proline Electrons in 2.4" as well. Sorry for all the questions but I am going to put a order in today and I want to make some good decisions.

Being new to 2wd, I need some tips on braking? Last week running on damp clay, slicks all around was the best tire option, but my brakes were useless! Every time I used them the car would whip around and lock the rear up. Esc brakes are set at 40 in a Tekin RS, radio EPA was at 80 with some expo to slow it down even more. The only thing I didn't get a chance to try was drag brake. Is it just a learning curve with 2wd or could it be somewhere in the setup?

No problem! I was in a time crunch for shorty's once as well, and came across their reviews on another forum. Tried them, and have zero complaints, plus they are ROAR approved. Saw a few being run at the Spektrum Nationals as well, cant beat the price and delivery from NY to WI was 2 days.

Up here at Trackside (which has a ton of bite) Dirt Webz dominate on the B5M, and they had crates of them available at the Spektrum race to buy. Everyone ran them. My local track is a bit looser, and I use Barcode Golds. This works great early in the night, but as time wears on, and a slight bit of dust develops, most people switch to Electrons. I manage to hang in there fine on my Barcodes, but I add 2 ounces of lead to the rear of the shock tower.

2wd is definitely a different beast if you are coming from 4wd. It takes a bit of a driving style change, especially with mid motor cars with 4 gear transmissions.

First, make runs through the part of the track where you brake the hardest and keep dialing back the epa on your radio until the tires won't lock up on you. Then, increase the drag brake from 0 one step at a time until you can let off the throttle and the car carves nicely entering corners without you stabbing at the brakes. You will find that it is better to just let off the throttle and let the car scrub most of its speed between the drag brakes and turning into the corner.

Thanks Krio, I'll be at the same track again tomorrow and will mess with drag brake during practice. When I could get the car to break lose enough to rotate it was fast but couldn't get it consistently to be worth the effort so I just was going neutral and coasting through.

If the car won't rotate enough without breaking the rear tires loose, then some setup changes will be in order. Hopefully drag brakes will help you cut down on your cornering times.
