Were there any rear motors at the roar nats or all mm cars in mod?

Default Associated B5M stock help.

I'm new to short track. I have SCTs but I start like to play buggy more. I always want to play some club races and local races very soon.

I will want to run stock class with my B5M kit. I will be playing in medium/tight indoor track for the winter.

I can't decide between two options...

OPTION A:
Tekin 17.5 Redline Gen2 motor
Tekin Gen2 or Spec ESC.
Spektrum or Savox servos ??

OPTION B:
Reedy Sonic 540 Mach 2 17.5 motor
LRP Spin or Flow ESC.
DS1313 or DS1015 servos.

Any recommendation or feedbacks?

No, there were no rear motor cars in the mod mains. Rear motor was at distinct disadvantage at this race in 2whl and stadium truck. I was the highest finishing rear motor truck and you could wheelie at half throttle lol... Buggy woulda been horrid in rear.

Martin Johnson made the A in stock with a RM.....But after his nats experience, he is shelving the RM for now in stock.

I just noticed he said MOD....Everyone local is running MM in mod for SRS and W3, which are medium to high bite. The number of stock MM cars is increasing too.

Option B: Tekin stuff is good and prob a lil cheaper but LRP and Reedy stuff is better IMO. On the other hand I only run savox servos and they are the best servos I have ran and I have had XP, hitec, futabas, and sanwa. Savox stuff is tough and really fast.

Honestly, You dont have to run all the same manufacturer. Savox servos are great servos 1257 or 1251. Tekin Gen2 RS are amazing escs but if you plan on mod I would buy the RSX. I would look into schuur speed for 17.5 racing. If not those Reedy mach 2 are great as well.

Excellent choice on the speed control. My brother has 3, one in each vehicle and he loves them. And having the chance to run hot modified motors for a stock spec speed control is a huge plus.

+1 on LRP for motors, my 7.5 X20 was way faster then other peoples Sonic Mach 2 7.5s had to dial back some EPA to keep from overshooting a rather large triple at my local track. Will be putting in the Team Works 12mm rotor for some more torque, but box stock the motor is a beast.

I find savox servos to be on the low end. Noisy, not precise, they draw a ton of power, and they don't last as long. They are nowhere NEAR as good as my futaba BLS servos.

Got to do a back to back test last night rm vs mm. Back to back rounds anyway. Rm was 2 seconds faster overall but mm had fast lap, fast 5 and fast 10. This is same tires, motor, esc, etc... Now which car do I keep? Lol

I agree with you. Don't even think about running one with a Spektrum receiver.

DS 1015 servo
MIP Pucks and aluminum topshaft
Ceramic bearings for transmission.

Hi guys. Just an FYI, I never thought that a body would make a substantial difference but I ran a Sweep body for the first time on Friday, with the fin on the roof, and it made my car very stable at speed. I'm not one to "Cherry Bomb" people with the latest and greatest but I could feel the difference over my other bodies.

Just to chime in about the Savox servo debate.....they are fine. Snobby racers whine about all they noise they make but I've never actually seen one go bad other that than the low profile versions. I think the 1251 is useless for an offroad car but the 1257 & 1258* are the best you can buy for the money. I use them myself as well as RSXs and some Futaba servos. Now that most ESCs are designed to work with more power hungry servos there is no practical reason why you couldn't use one. In the old days they had brown out issues but that's in the past.
