Grease is petroleum base, it can soften plastic making the ball cups threads weaker.

Also grease binds the cups after a few days and makes adjustment all the more difficult.

There's good reason why Lunsford uses bee's wax for their Ti rods & ball cups..

Maybe I should use Dove soap. At least it also moisturizes your hands while you work on your turnbuckles... LOL
