One of the AE design engineers was on one of the threads and answered that question. Short answer....it works better that way. No further elaboration was given. I am sure all the Monday morning, arm chair engineers will offer there own opinion but I am sure they did a lot of testing before going with two separate arms and all the inventory and manufacturing hassles that brings.

It was posted earlier but RC Car Action had a good write up, a little more intuitive that the others.

Trust me I have garage engineered enough stuff and paid enough in stupidity tax buying stuff trying to make it work.

If you look at the pictures the new car uses a cvs pin captured by the bearing. Now matter how you look at it either the bone is longer or the out drive is. Something had to take up the difference in length. Now maybe you can get the puck out drives to fit on the new diff and then use your old hubs and bones but that's just conjecture at this point. But just from the picture I can tell it's not going to work without new bones...or using your old hubs and axles.

no problem i tried to use "low profile" bullets and it wasnt as clean with the 2mm bullet balance port. so if i use a saddle in my b5 i will still make a low-profile jumper to run, and still use that same balance jumper to charge.
but as i just picked up a reedy 4100 65c i think i will be running that in-line in my b5. should work very well because the car is not designed around a ~450g 6-cell nimh pack. if i had to guess the ability to run a saddle is just there for legality :P doesnt hurt for tuning either tho.

It looks like the same gear diff. I guess you can run the avid top shaft and slipper on it?
