If high bite I'd ship'er back, pre-order the Lite, a bi metal puck system, lightened top shaft and light weight slipper setup. You can drop allot of rotating weight with those items, and that really wakes a 17.5 up. All that coupled with the Lite car and high tack would be perfect. On a low bite track... you'd probably chasing allot of traction and steering issues.

What type of surface will you be running on? If low bite, and you insist on a mid motor... a 3 gear and lighter chassis may hurt more than help with steering and rear bite.

Yes the lite comes with the alum topshaft. The 4 gear tranny will come with the same shaft soon too. There's a revised v2 4 gear case.

I think if the redid the mesh for the 3 gear, wouldn't it be wise to update the 4 gear?

The T5m is coming with the updated 4 gear (5x10 Top Shaft bearings with alum top shaft). I would think that this will start working its way into the B5m kits around the time of the t5m release.
