One thing I don't see in the CE conversion kit it the new top shaft, I have a first run B5m so I assume I will need this to go 3 gear?

First time posting but I've been lurking and reading for a while now.

I have a B5M with a bunch of mods. Recently had back surgery so I've just been working on it, upgrading it and trying to get it as close to what I think is right so that when I can get to the track it will be good with minimal tuning.

Thank you all for the great posts, advice and humor

Major items include:
Trinity 17.5 D4 motor
Tekin RSX ESC
Plan B Carbon Fiber Chassis
3 Gear Transmission with cut gears, Avid ceramic bearings, tungsten balls and Ceramic thrust

I am waiting for the parts to arrive for the 3 gear lay down setup.

Enjoy the pictures!

Thanks!! I raced it when it was stock but then had two back surgeries. As soon as I am able to I will be at the track.

This is my first car in 18 years aside from an almost 80mph Stampede I built and restoring old RC10's.

Hi,

I'm new here and had a couple Traxxas "basher" type R/Cs when I was younger but haven't messed with r/c in about 10 years. Recently visited a local track and I'm interested in running their stock buggy 17.5 blinky class. I've never raced before. I ordered a B5M CE from AMain yesterday and should be getting it in about a week. I've done some research but I have a couple basic questions.

1) Are the screws/nuts metric or SAE? I have some basic automotive tools in the garage but will probably need some smaller hex keys and nut drivers I imagine. What other tools will I need for the assembly?

2) I see both 2.2" and 61(?)mm wheels listed for 1/10 buggies. Which should I use on the B5M?

3) I noticed that none of the local hobbies shops that I visited seem to carry any B5M specific parts. Is this likely to change as the platform ages?

4) Here's my basic list so far for electronics. Please feel free to comment/critique. Local track has a clay surface if that matters.

-Hobbywing XERUN "Justock" sensored brushless ESC
-EcoPower slingshot 17.5 motor
-Airtronics MX-V FHSS-2 Radio
-Savox SC-1258TG Servo
-Hitec X1 AC Plus Single Port AC/DC Charger
-SMC Factory Spec 7.4V Shorty 4400mAh 60C Batteries

Thanks for the help! This board is a great resource!

so do you guys run the aluminum front bulkhead?

I figure a little more weight on the front end wont be a bad thing?

or am I thinking backwards to get a bit more steering?

No Al bulkhead for me. But I do have 14 grams of stick on, on the chassis (Lite chassis) in front of the servo. On a whim... I weighed mine this Saturday and came in at 1531 grams. Grab a buddies car and his was at 1680!

Where do you need more steering? My daughter was complaining that her car ( one mentioned above) was over steering on entry. I made a caster change and it was a night and day difference. Her lap times dropped almost a full second per lap and her consistency increased by a ton.
My point is, have you tried adjusting your set-up before you add weight?

I want to try it in mine. Being a stock car, I have got it down to about as light as I want it. Now I want to start adding weight in places to keep my CG low and also bring back the planted feel when the car was 1600+ grams. If anything I will keep it just to do the hinge pin mod.

Try different Front tires first if that doesn't work make the Front ride height lower than the Rear 1mm . Battery forward makes quite a difference also on this buggy.

Just bought a RC10B5 and got it in the mail. Is this the same as the RC10B5M or is this an older model?

I am getting ready for the build. It's going to be my first build. Any advice for making sure I do this right?

Thanks!
