2wd racing has evolved into higher speed tracks with big air that are smoother. Name the last major race that was held on a track like that.
Not to mention that was almost 10 years ago.
I have mentioned it in a number of threads but the track used for the 2013 EFRA Euro championships was awesome and how I wish offroad tracks would be. Mix of surfaces, some carpet, some dirt, cobble stone. Surface was not perfect everywhere and the racing was great. This, to me, is how offroad racing should be.

It is NOT legal to run 4wd front tires on a 2wd buggy at a sanctioned race.

Why not? I thought it looked like a blast.

If you're racing the best of the best of the best, it would make sense to challenge those drivers by having them race on multiple surfaces, even on the same lap. This would equalize tires and traction additives. I would love it. It would be much more entertaining than watching the best drivers with the best equipment and the best support racing on a perfectly prepared surface.

With today's ultra bite sugar tracks, it makes sense they used an on-road RC designer on the B5's... don't it?

That's what worries me. I love my Yokomo B-Max2 on dirt, astro and carpet. As the tracks in our race schedule this year alternate between dirt and astro, I'll probably get a second 2WD in order not to have to convert my buggy every other week, and that's where the low-priced B5 Team might come into play. I really hope that it still works on real off-road dirt tracks although the battery is more to the front than on traditional 2WDs.

Who else were they going to use? One of the main guys that designed the B4 (Kurt Wenger) is no longer at AE. Kody was still in College when design started on the B5.

I dunno. it looks cheezy and backyardish. I would never concider astro and bricks to be "true" offroad. I would simply prefer dirt and a certain level of technicality o the layout. The reedy race layout was boring. At least to watch. The world actually had a nice layout, but I wish is has been more dirt and less sugar

There is no reason to think that this type of track won't be encountered again. 1/8 racing has continued to see a great variety of track types throughout this period, as has the ROAR nats (Joliet Il. was a more typical outdoor hard-pack track). Likewise, the 2004 Nats track was extremely abrasive and high bite (pink taper pins lasted 2 runs). What was the South Africa track like?

Track facilities bid for these races and if they can handle the capacity they are considered. Like another said, it's off road.

I wish they had used the whole track area too. 5.5's in 2wd and 3.5 in 4wd!!

I sure hope all of the world's aren't on hard pack sticky dirt from now on. Yatabe Arena is like that but maybe a regular kind of track would be nice after that. The Finnish track was a nice blend with what appeared to be enough consistency. Unless they sugared that track too but it didn't look like it.

Now would the 'block' pack be the one on the right or three from the right? The one on the far right looks shmecksy… I love it when the bullet connectors are recessed like that
Block pack is three from right, the at right is a 1S for onroad.
