I haven't seen it in action- but I'm going to say a shorty will be more versatile, because it will allow for multiple battery positions to change weight positioning in the chassis. It will still have plenty of power just like in all other 2wd cars.

Plus it's lighter- so if you prefer that it's good. But that in itself lets you put extra weight where you want it and it will make the biggest difference. (ex: behind the rear tower, behind the servo, front bulkhead, etc).

Maybe on a outdoor track where it's loose and has more traditional dirt the saddle will be ideal.
