Default Most ridiculous question ever....

I was searching around ebay and couldnt help but notice that some mugen mbx7 eco parts were selling fairly cheap. I am honestly thinking of starting a build and ordering each part individually, making sure to get the best deal on each. Has anyone tried this? Any advantages/disadvantages? Seems like it might be fun.

I built a T4.2 that way, but it isn't worth it unless you have a bunch of parts already. I had ~1/3 of the truck (most importantly, I was able to source hubs, drive shafts, differential, chassis and won gift certificates that got me a body and steering rack) so I was able to save ~$150 compared to buying the truck off the shelf. The expense comes in hardware. I ordered a full screw kit instead of trying to piece together what I needed from individual screw sizes.

Yes...cheap for each part... But if bought in a full kit that is where the real savings are. I once did some calculations on a car build like the one you are talking about... If I bought everything cheap and individually, I still would end up spending nearly double on putting it together from scratch.

So no... If you want a kit, buy a kit. If you want a bunch of parts, buy a bunch of parts.

Buying a few parts a week and slowly building it over a few months would save me from spending $600+ on the kitall at once. I honestly think it sounds like fun. Im gonna go for it i think. If anyone has a manual for an mbx7 eco please let me know. Also any spare parts are needed. I am ordering the chassis and a screw kit from rcscrewz now.

Seriously, don't. Just be patient, save a bit.

You will end up spending way more in the end.

It doesn't sound like fun, the point of a kit is it's all there, so you can build it, no so you can go look for parts and waste money

I guess it's your money though. Do update us on how much you spend though.

My MBX7 Eco was $530 shipped. I can't imagine you can build it piece by piece for cheaper.

I would think whatever you save in parts cost will get more than eaten up with all the shipping you'll pay for a ton of small orders...yes buy the kit.

You won't be disappointed with the mugen. But to piece it all together isn't the best idea. The guys who sell the parts are in it for the money. They buy a whole kit. Separate the parts and sell them on fleabay. They're not in it to lose money so they know how much they need to get for each piece. Know what I'm sayin?

What you are seeing on ebay is a kit being parted out because it makes more money that way even after all the fees and hassle.

Reread my post......$530, not $350. I used a $90 off coupon on Tower.

i looked into a b4.2 about $30 higher than kit and a sc10.2 about $20 cheaper than a kit. the only real savings would be not buying parts you don't want. i run an avid slipper and different wheels on both, also different body on the truck. on the buggy thats another $30 savings and truck $40-$50.
