What is acceptable for indoor off road racing?
Hi all,
I would love to see regular indoor off road racing locally, but it seems that North America is not used to the style of indoor racing common in the UK.
Is there anything like just running on a games hall floor in North America?
WOuld it be tolerated?
Anyone got any ideas, experience of racing indoors/ off road?
I'd love to hear it.
My own UK clubs used to just run in a games hall, maybe build a crappy wooden jump and get on with it.

I would like to see it too.
The only thing "offroad" really ran at tracks that are dedicated to offroad are stadium trucks over jumps ( tiny ones usually ) and maybe monster trucks. 1/18 is done as well. This usually is usually done for carpet tracks. Buggies usually aren't run on carpet track as they are believed to tear up the tracks with there wings and exposed parts but in all honesty, the E-maxxes do more damage to the tracks than any buggy I have seen.
I would like to do more indoor offroad too, that usually has a great turnout for electric vehicles.

The local club in Madison Wi. does indoor offroad carpet racing in the winter in addition to onroad carpet. They alternate days and have a large collection of wooden jumps (one of which is a very large step up table). Trucks only for offroad as the shock towers cause considerable damage to the carpet when they traction roll or flip on jump landings. As an added precaution, they put down extra carpet in the jump landing zones. We just had a very nice indoor dirt track so carpet offroad is probably dead for us.

seems like most clubs would not be able to build a permanent layout, I would expect most clubs to rent a hall, and just throw down some ropes and go, but I can't seem to bring people round to that being a fun proposition......

how about astro turf with wood jumps under it, thats what we did back in the 80's. at the mini-t nationals at rc madness, the just put wood jumps covered in carpet around the road corse, it was alot of fun. here is a link hobby chambers off road carpet set up http://www.hobbychamber.com/gallery.htm no slippery floors, you will need to laydown some temp carpet, for mini racing you can use foam interlocking floor tiles, you can see a picture of a mini track using the tiles here http://www.supersportrc.com

Offroad Carpet.
WE have a Carpet track. (www.michianarc.com) I'm not sure if we have any pics of it, but it has about 1/2 dozen jumps, steel plow disks for obsticles. Were in the process of laying down new carpet and our season starts Friday Sept. 30th.
Most people run 2wd trucks. but lately have had a small crowd of 1/10th scale 4wd buggies. (most losi's) We also run 12th, Touring car and oval. For more information, please check out our forums at www.michianarc.com

Running 4wd 1/10 scale buggies indoor on carpet is a blast. I did this with my Academy SB for a bit and the traction it had was unbelievable. What is a nice trick to do is a modified 4wd stadium truck class using 4wd buggies as the chassis and rig up truck bodies to the vehicles. This covers the shock towers so you don't rip stuff up. Probably could do the same with 2wd buggies.
