Default I HAVE A NEED, THE NEED FOR SPEED!!!

Ok everyone... Its race time. 2wd short course and buggy... What "legal" roar approved 17.5 motor for stock racing???? Lots of guys run viper but i was told they cant be geared high for my local tracks long straightaway cuz it would run super hot, i was told ballistic is good but not as fast as reedy sonic, someone recommended orion, and i see lots of speed passions for sale so im guessing thats a noooo? All and any help is appreciated. Btw speed control is an orion vortex pro looking to gear 76/25 and losi 22 int. ratio is 2.43
Its a high grip large track, long straigh, lots of tight turns and big jumps, kind of need a motor that does it all, rpm, torque and acceleration!

Thumbs down

I was told the D3.5 motors were being banned and not roar approved. Idk the details but the D4 motors are supposed to be ok but arent out yet. I also read a few forums having roasted killshots

One thing for advice, you can aim for gearing all you want, but it comes across as you not wanting to change it. And not playing with that is just one way of keeping you from reaching goals you may have. Each one of the motors listed has needed different gearing to reach full potential when I've run them.

I am all for gearing to get the most which is why i am asking for everyones motor opinions. I am simply giving a starting point based on orions esc and what they state it is the ideal capabilities. Just trying to get some trial and error without buying every motor first ; )

Can't go wrong with a Trinity D3.5(they are ROAR legal again)or a Tekin. I have ran both motors and they are both awesome motors. Seem about same top speed with same gearing and run about same temp.

Last I heard the D3.5 is ROAR approved only until around March when the D4 is expected to come out. Some tracks/associations may already not allow it.

Does your track require motors to be roar legal for club racing?

Trinity d3.5, reedy sonic, orion, schurrspeed, tekin, lrp, viper. Just pick one and go. I doubt you have the capabilities in racing that would cause you to be held back by the motor itself anyways

Thanks for the kind words there "rookie"! I would have a snappy comeback but the fact that you would even ponder that says novels about your skills. If you ever make an A main you will find out only a few tenths of a second seperate first from last place but really good input, thanks junior.
