Default b4 issues

Just got back into 1/10th scale and having an issue. Got a b4 with an older LRP Sphere and a LRP 13.5 motor. Plugged everything up today and reset the esc to my radio. Went to give it some throttle and the tires arnt really moving very fast at all, like 0 ballooning with a fully charged 2s. Took a look at the manual and played with the manual with what not but no improvement. Considering doing a factory reset on the esc, any other suggestions?

Has a 19T pinion

19 is very small for a 13.5. I'm running a 29 in my DEX210.

Here is a different line of though which is totally unrelated to the electronics...

Did you build this kit yourself? Or did you recently tear down the transmission and rebuild it?

The reason I ask, and I'm not trying to insult you, is that if you torque down on the transmission case screws too much when rebuilding, the transmission will bind to the point where full throttle will look like a crawl.

When you give it full throttle and let it go, do the wheels stop immediately or do they coast down in like 5-10 sec? If they are stopping immediately, then your transmission is binding.

I would also go up a few teeth on your pinion.. at LEAST a 28.

Bought the bug from a member on here who said he had been racing it with great results the past few weeks. Ill check into the tranny.... This isnt my first b4 by a long shot but its been about 5 years since i ran one.

Also i was playing with the motor timing, turn it from 3ish to 2 or so and the motor got hot within seconds.... Not sure what that means

At the factory settings the wheels were stopping like i was using break after letting off throttle, i turned off the drag break and they slowed down within 5-10seconds like normal

Is a 72 the stock spur? From what ive read the stock spur is an 81, its a ft b4.1. Getting a new pinion tomorrow, should i go for a 30 or more like a 26-28?

Also whats the deal with timing on these things? Is there a thread on it or something

Yes gear up for sure I'm running 35 pinion and 69 spur on a 17.5 for 13.5 I was around 28/75. Set the timing on the motor around the middle of the range and check temps.

You should do what you said in your post, reset the esc FIRST.
Otherwise all the other stuff is moot.

always reset electronics to defaults. never know what the last guy did. I dont think the old sphere was boost capable, but you will want to verify the lipo cutoff and such.

Got to the track yesterday for some 8th scale racing and got it all sorted out. Turns out the motor was just fryed. A friend lent me his 6.5t tacon motor and the buggy screams now.

Upon inspection of the 13.5t motor that came with the buggy we found black fryed coils and the stator was completely dislodged like he had throw the motor. All the internal mounts and threading was bent and stripped as well. I am going to message the member and request he paypal me for half of what a new motor would cost. Do you think thats asking to much? The motor was descibed as fully functions with only 6 runs on it. Im going to replace it with a SMC 9.5T.

Also im using a 19T pinion for the 6.5 motor, is that around what i need? What about for a 9.5t?

Thanks for all the help guys

I don't know about that, it's going to be your word against theirs.
They're going to say it was in working order when they sent it to you, and you'll have a hard time proving otherwise.
My feeling is USED IS USED, you're assuming a risk buying used electronics.
Plus, you bought the buggy. The motor and the extra bodies and extra tires we're just thrown in with the deal to sweeten the pot.
You got a dirt cheap deal on a almost brand new buggy, move on and let it go.

Couldn't agree more, or have put it any better

you can let the guy know the motor is bad and see if he will do anything. If he refuses, then you have little ground to stand on aside from leaving him bad feedback if that is what you want to do. I am hearing good things about the smc motors, I plan to try them if I run mod.
