Default Burnt up my motor...any ideas?

Hi Guys,

I have a Trophy Flux...i have modded it enough to finally make it reliable. I swapped out the stock 1950kv motof (i think thats what it is) for a Tekin 2050KV T8 that i had in my Hellfired (that we modded for elec)

The thing was running great....and then is started to get a little jittery...that went away and it was fine. Came flying through the yard and the thing just stopped...popped off the body, and see that two wires on the motor are off. I hit it with the temp gun and it at 207..i was like wtf....

So idk what the deal was.. I am wondering if a wire broke the solder joint and then came in contact with the other wire and fried the motor....the thing is locked solid...havent taken it out yet...Someone suggested that the pinion was teh wrong size and that it over heated the motor...would 200 degrees pop a solder joint? The thing ran great with the smaller motor so i figured the tekin would be fine....

Any ideas?

The Epoxy that holds the Kevlar will breakdown at those temps
You have scattered the magnets.
Worn out dog bones, wrong pinion, bad bearings, etc could have caused it to heat up..,

I am guessing wrong pinion...def not dogbones as the truck is fairly new.

I am using a Turnigy 42 45-90c....I don't think it's the battery, as it was fine with the stock setup...

Yes the solder can melt if the motor temp is 200. The solder tabs could have been hot enough due to resistance.

because the solder tabs get much hotter than 200. Only the car hits 200, the tabs could be 700+. The same way a motor can desolder the wires if its overloaded.

4s 2050 buggy motor in a heavy "hellfire" truck geared how? A few issues can be that you were over geared, the esc is setup incorrectly, and the truck may weigh too much for the motor in general.

We make Truggy/Truck motors for a reason. Such as the 2000kv and 2250kv which work great on 4s.

I ran that motor in my hellfire on a 2s with a 16 tooth pinion....with a 4s in the hellfire it never had a problem....so i am thinking that it may be the pinion at this point...If i can get some time tonight i am going to pull it apart and see what the stock pinion was....I have always run nitro...so i am still learning this elec stuff
