TLR 22 2.0 Race Kit: 1/10 2WD Buggy thread
 

Well, it is finally here, the 22 2.0 Buggy Kit. Just announced minutes ago on TLRacing.com, the 22 2.0 is a project I have been working on very hard with the great team of people we have at TLR the past several months. We couldn't be happier with the car as it is, and think you guys will really enjoy it.

To put it simply, this car is much easier to drive than the original 22, but still laser quick around the track. There are way to many details to cover in a single post, so I'll just direct you to the product page for more info:

Kit Shock Oil - Due to the late mix up, the 22 2.0 kits did come with 27.5wt oil and not the 30wt oil that was intended for the kit, and put on the kit setup sheet. The new/future kits will be coming with 30wt. oil. Just be sure to check your oil bottle, as the weight listed on the bottle is accurate.

Steering Rack Fix - On the 22 2.0 build, I have one quick note guy. On one of the sample kits, we saw an issue that when the rack housing was tightened down well in the chassis between the chassis, front pivot and front bulkhead, the slider rack could be a little on the snug side. We didn't see this during any of the testing or samples, so it was a surprise to see it in the production kits. Since the fix literally takes only 30 seconds, we didn't feel it was worth holding back the kits to do a full inspection, or possibly rework the kits with new parts.

With the said, the rack top to bottom, just needs a little shaving. I don't have one in front of me, so I don't have the exact dimensions, but you should be able to sand about .15mm (almost nothing) off the top and/or bottom of the rack to solve the issue. I used an emory board (nail file) and it only took a few swipes, so don't go crazy with it. If you already have the rack housing installed in the front end, just do a little at a time and keep checking to see if the rack is 100% free. If it is, you are done and move on. If not, sand just a little more.

Guys, I am really sorry I had to throw this build tip out there. We worked really hard to do everything in our power to be sure the kit build was perfect, but sometimes the production parts from longer runs are just a tab bit off. Again, we never saw this problem until we got a production kit to check when the shipment arrive in CA. When you are working with tolerances as tight as we are you take this risk, and this time it bit us a little, but at least the fix is easy. We'll work to be sure the fit is improved moving forward, and be sure to ask me if you have any questions. Next week, I'll get a detailed post with photos on the TLRacing Team Blog for sure.

FAQ's -
Does the tranny still need to be raised? No, the extra rear grip in the geometry of the 22 2.0 does not require the additional rear grip gained from raising the rear transmission.
Do the 22 aluminum front caster blocks or spindles fit the 22 2.0? No, they do not. The 22 2.0 caster block geometry was updated in several dimensions and 1.0 caster blocks or 1.0 spindles will not work properly.
Does a shorty battery fit in Mid Motor? Yes, a shorty battery fits in MM just fine. You will need to use the rear motor battery mount to fit without modification, but with a dremel and 3 minutes, you can take a little material off to fit a shorty with the mid motor battery mount as well.
What is the body Dustin/Dakotah/Frank are running? It is the TLR Cab Forward Body for the TLR 22 2.0, TLR330000.
When will the TLR Cab Forward body ship? Right now, we are scheduled for the end of November. I am doing all I can to get it in on time or early, but I need to be sure it is right.
Will the JConcepts, Pro-Line, or any other 22 1.0 bodies fit the 22 2.0? Yes, there were not changes to the TLR 22 2.0 that alter how the bodies fit the car and chassis.
Does the 22 2.0 come with Low Frequency Springs? Yes it does, red Fronts and Yellow rears.

22 to 22 2.0 Parts Lists - Many people have asked for the parts list to convert a 22 to a 22 2.0, so here are the lists. One list covers all of the parts, the other covers only the key changes to geometry. Quite frankly, it is a much better deal/value to get the kit as you'll not only get all the new parts, but for not much more money, you'll have an entirely new car, body, wing, etc.

Same chassis length. We are pretty much maxxed out to ROAR/IFMAR/EFRA rules from the original 22, and tested shorter chassis's quite a bit actually. The results were always a slower, twitchier car.

Can we use the new steering rack on the 1.0's? What would the new rack do differently? Thanks frank :D

Yes, the new slider will drop right in. The ball studs are effectively 2mm higher, and 2mm further forward (when using Low Mount Ball Studs). This moves the ackermann to a slightly lower rate, and gets the bump steer in a range where you can get to 0 bump in/out without any washers on the spindle (all depends on spindle height also though).

Since the chassis, shocks, diff, hinge pins, axles, body and wing all changed, not to mention half the plastics, it's going to be way cheaper to get a kit.

I will be stopping by the local hobby shop to pre order two of these. Gonna have to work a lot of overtime lol. Horizon is doing a good job of getting my money! Lol this and the 3.0e at same time. Cant wait to build them.:nod:
