This motor does stutter, but barely turns occasionally.

if I had to guess, the sensor board on the esc is dead. If the sensor board on the esc dies, it should still run unsensored. The motor is getting hot because its getting crazy signals from the esc. Kinda like driving you RL car while pushing on the gas and brake at the same time. I blew the sensor board on one of my esc's it it acted exactly like this. It is a HW clone also. The sensor board in the motor went back and took out the esc with it. that is my guess.

Ah. So in that case, I'd need a whole new ESC altogether?

maybe, you really need someone with a good motor and/or esc to verify. I was just stating my guess based on what happened to me and it "looks" like the same thing happened to you.

Spraying a sensor board with motor spray doesn't do anything but clean it. I disassemble my race motors every week and spray them out, and reoil the bearings.

Okay. I'll call one of my friends and see. Either way, it sounds like one or the other is permanently shot.

Well, just an update (and I double post, I know). I gave the poor thing one last cleaning and soldering and setting up sensorless, and tried to make it turn over, and within five seconds the wires got hot and the motor let smoke go.

Did I just ruin everything?

Great. So now I have a bad motor and a bad speed control, I'm guessing.

You should get another ESC and something bigger then 45A.

Thanks. Message me on Facebook and I'll give you my number so we can do that. Thanks a lot. I'm going to take it to Dave though too and see what he says.

The 45A rating is fine for the motor; the max motor draw is 26A. After the motor smoked though, it still turns over. So we'll see what happens.
