I just got my D413 running. I race at a large track that has a 140 foot straight, yet has some technical sections. I will be racing the 13.5 class as I have a Justock ESC. I have a 72 tooth spur. Can anyone recommend a pinion or narrow pinion range?

Per the manual transmission the Justock says to use a 11.5t motor or greater. Is it possible to use a lower turn motor such as a 8.5t with a Justock if temps are low?

what motor are you running? Some are more RPMish than others.

You may find benefit to getting the smaller spur from exotek.

Depends on the motor and timing. I have ran 28 to 37 With 13.5 prob start with 34. Thought I read guys running like 8.5 with just stock. The fans a ripper on that esc. So I doubt it will get hot. I was also gonna use a just stock but was thinking my 5.5 would be to much. Maybe not? I just put in a mamba x. Little over kill. But it’s all I had. Good luck. Post a pic when you get it done.

Cain, I have your old car or your Daughter's. The car looks great!

There is a 72 spur in it so I will use that for the time being. I will use the exoteric 68 that they make. I would like to push the motor more to the center and use smaller Pinions. What diff oils did you have in it and what shock oils.

Right now the only motor I have is for 13.5 is a TrackStar. I believe these are Reedy copies....probably Version 1's. I put a Trackstar 17.5 On my motor analyzer and it was not quite as good as my Fantom 17.5, for example.

I am contemplating purchasing a 13.5 Motiv, Trinity Max, or Fantom. I have a big race and in 2 weeks and I will not be using a Trackstar. A Sanwa M12S and Trackstar is a funny racing combination.

Hmm, trying to recall, I think its either 10 or 7K front, 100K center, and maybe 5K or 3K rear. sorry I totally spaced getting her setup down for you

I would say since you are running a 13.5 blinky style, I would setup fan, and I would gear the vehicle to top out towards the end of the longest straight and just gearing for temps.

that method in general gets me within a tooth or 2 of the ideal gearing for temps.

Personally I was really liking 10K front, 200K center, and 5K rear here. But I like a snappy car.

I took my car out last night. The track was loamy and traction was fantastic. Hence any car and setup pretty much works. However, after making some changes in pinion sizes and motor timing I kept running this car instead of my ebuggy, SCT etc. I am confident that this buggy will be good on low traction conditions. So much fun......even with an underpowered setup for a large track.....13.5t motor/blinky.

Ok -- putting together car number two. 5.5 turn motor for a large outdoor track. Any thoughts on boost or turbo?

For 13.5 wheeler class does anyone take out two spider gears in the diffs?

I ran ts 13.5 at many settings. Dremeled ears off and even tried beyond max. Finally set half way between center and max with 35t. Ran 5 race nights. Have diff motor now. I ran a 22t with 5.5 epa at 85 to 90.

Juststock handles an 8.5 in wheeler with no issues. I’ve been running one in mine for over a year. For 13.5 I really like the Orion ultimate stock motors. I’ll be testing it against a Tekin Spec R next weekend

Well, I ran my 13.5t car in a mixed class last night (mod and 13.5 guys). It showed promise in the first qualifier, but my results got worse as the night progressed. Actually, everyone got better. I did drop from a 35 tooth pinion to a 32 and it was worse..... I may try a 34 tooth pinion next on this large track. I used a crappy Trackstar motor and it was very sluggish....even with playing with motor timing/amp draw and gearing....The car was stable and jumped well. I just had a turtle of a motor...

Thanks for the info Juicebox.... I may give it a try...

I can't recommend Trinity motors enough. I've got a Trinity d3.5 13.5 in mine with 30/72 gearing (25° timing) and it rips! Motor runs super cool so if I needed more top end I could easily gear up or increase timing. FWIW I have a Trinity d4 ss motor in my 17.5 buggy too and that motor is crazy fast and never gets hot.

I have run Trinity motors for a long time including that d3.5 until it wasn't legal. The new MAX trumps all previous versions including the Monster certified. I have some newer orion stuff too and will be switching all my cars to the MAX.
