i hope you're right, but i think i'm right (that the kit will come with plastic caps).

for me, this issue comes down to price. if the kit is $450+ and comes with aluminum caps, i'm ok. if it's $450+ and comes with plastic caps? i'm not going to be as thrilled because, of course, i will have to have them (which i'm sure will be an additional $30-40). afterall, the mantra of this buggy is "it's durable so you feel comfortable driving at 100% of your ability". well, knowing that ty and the team had a concern about these parts, how can i not have the same concerns and thus not have it effect my mental ability to let it all hang out?

Upon a 2nd read, I think you might be right. [eeeek]

Whatever the cost of the kit, the fact that this happened during real work applications, and to a top pro driver who rarely makes mistakes, I think it's only logical they do away with any notion of plastic caps and in luxe the more secure variety.

I had a front arm snap last week landing a quad BEAUTIFULLY with my current wheeler (guess the brand) and it ripped the shock out of the plastic cap and so e threads along with it so I'm not looking to ever have this issue again. From now on aluminum caps for me.

Not sure if some deal was made with Pro-Line either??

Would they have it so the kit is plastic capped and Pro-Line is there with an upgrade right away?

Maybe Pro-line will simply provide the caps in the kit?

Option #2 is what I would like to see of course, but until kits have a final production offering to us we will likely just have to wait and see. But looking at the HPI site the glamor shots seem to be plastics.

vs

and the PL offering is "captured" to shock tower with a nut as well. I would think the ball cup caps would be a chronic point of frustration to people. So with that additional thought the $30-$40 idea for shock caps might be a little low since it will come with more hardware to install.

On the plus side, it seems to come with sway bars vs the 22-4

Torrence said that he designed some aluminum shock caps so I doubt proline parts would be included in the kit, it just so happened that HB wasn't able to make them in time for Ty while proline was able to. I honestly wouldn't worry so much about the shock caps.....

He said around worlds Ty was worried they might be a problem and pro line offered to make them as they had a press at World.. If I remember correct he said it has not been a problem and that they did it as a pre- caution as it was world.. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure thats what I remember reading

Nope, he said Ty had one come apart on him at the Roar Nationals Practice which is what prompted him to draw up new ones to be machined from aluminum but they couldn't get it done in time and Proline could, and did.

While the ball cup caps look slick, I see it as being a HUGE problem because they will pop off during races and customers will certainly NOT be happy campers if they are the weak point of the car. I prefer captured hardware that cannot come loose so the Aluminum ones for me please!

Any new info to offer Torrence?

no but we will eventually. or... if enough people ask them PL might make them. they can probably get to market quicker than us.

Ty ran plastic caps at the Reedy with no problems. I highly doubt they will be a problem. Torrance is a smart dude. When he designs something you can bet it's gonna be right.

Plus lets not forget the path of broken B44's that were left in it's path in A2 of the worlds lol

I'm 99.9% sure it'll come with the plastic tops. I think they'll be good stuff personally.

Ball ends pop off all the time. It will not be the end of someones race, turn marshals should be well versed in popping them back on like anything else.

Not an issue.

You're absolutely correct in that ball cups pop off, BUT every time they do the lose a bit of their holding strength and it becomes increasingly easier to pop off every time. I'm certain that's not a characteristic anyone would want in shock caps even though these look super slick!

so far they've only popped off in severe crashes. the intention is that you pop them on only once during initial assembly. afterwards when you need to remove the shock you unscrew the nut that holds it on so that the cap and ball stud stay together. the kit will include a stamped wrench to make this easy.
