Outdoors doesn't need to mean just 1/8th nitro. We are still running ours on a couple of local outdoor 1/10th tracks. Just some minor tweaks to the setup and it was running good on low/medium grip outdoor clay last weekend.

yea I've been running mine outdoors and on a 1/8 sized track. Its been a lot of fun, but having the right tires for outdoors is a big part. Setup wise the only thing I changed is dropped down my Center Diff oil.

Default Getting my D413 today

I only been in this sport about two months running a B5M Lite but I wanted to try 4x4 so tonight I am getting my D413 kit and I am going to have the following:

ESC and Motor - Reedy Blackbox and Reedy 6.5 Motor
Remote - Spektrum DX4R Pro 4-Chan
Servo - Spektrum S6100 High Voltage Surface Servo

Batteries:
Team Orion 2S "Carbon Pro" 100C Li-Poly Shorty Pack Battery w/4mm Tubes (7.4V/4500mAh)

I would love to hear what you think of my setup, what gearing I should use and also any tips on driving a 4x4 for the first time

If you haven't already looked, the first page of thread has a lot of great info, tips, tricks and even a gearing chart listed. Gearing will depend on size and/or type of track running on.

As for setting up the car, I would look thru the link to see if something is similar to your track area. A lot of people have started with the original Ty's Reedy Setup from 2014. It makes the car very easy to drive and the car can be pushed hard. Depending on your track type, if medium or high bite you might have to change diff fluids. I run on Med/High bite and run 7-100-5 for diffs.

How must have are the carbon inserts. I was planning on gluing the plastic inserts to help stiffen up the arms. Do the carbon inserts make the car 100% better or 5%?

If you run on tracks with High Bite, you definitely will want the carbon inserts..

Thank you. I will order them. I for sure will be running them on indoor clay only.

What other shock pistons work with the shocks. I want to get the Avid 2 hole pistons, but do they fit?

Avid does not make a d413 piston. But RCShox out of Houston does. He makes the 1.6 and 1.7 single stage and the dual stage pistons for the d413. As well as a couple other goodies.

Thanks guys. I have already looked at the VRC ones, but I was just wanting to use regular pistons. The VRC pistons seem cool, I just don't like that they are thicker than the normal piston. This causes the lock nut to not lock on the shock shaft.

I will look at rcshox again. I just saw the steering rack. I will look harder.

i have kind of settled on 31/69 with team powers motor timing at "2"

i am running the exotek 69 spur, and it is LOUD ! even with a full heat i got no problem hearing my car ....unfortunatly in my opinion the more you can hear it the more power is wasted in making the sound....today it will get torn apart get some fresh bearings and checked out

our local fast guy can with his 44.2 nail 16.2-16.6 lap times, where i struggle with 17 flats...he can tripple out...i cant.....on the upside i got same amount of laps (19) as the 44.2, and a 44.3 running mod motor....so thats cool....
