What are people's thoughts on this car on a low grip smooth clay track? With the shorty layout.

Regards,

Default 5 race update

I've run my D413 for 5 race days now, on a smooth low grip dirt track with big jumps. I started with the tessman OCRC setup.

I went down on my front diff fluid, now I am at 7K/60K/2K and am pretty happy with it. I felt like when I was at 10 or 15 in the front it was sluggish in the low speed steering areas. Im thinking about trying 5K in the front next to see how it feels, though it is getting to the point where it has as much steering as I need.

For shock oil I am running 35/30 with the 3x1.3 piston (used the kit piston and glued a hole shut). I tried using the gold rear spring instead of yellow (1 step stiffer) but the rear was just a little too loose at times. It was better on 180 degree turns, though.

Only have broken 1 rear ballcup. I bent a front dogbone, but it still works fine. I have never popped off a shock cap and never had a spur gear problem.

What hingepin holders did the kit come with? Did it come with 2 pairs of 1 dot, 2 pairs of 2 dot, and 2 pairs of 3 dot? I seem to only have 1 pair of 3 dot...

what radio's do you guys use with this buggy.

I have some range issues with my sanwa mt-4 that I didnt had before. Was thinking of the carbon could be one of the sources for this issue

Hi everyone,

First time posting though i have followed this thread since the beginning.

PLEASE READ!

My LHS had a d413 kit in stock for about 3 weeks around the time nobody could find a kit to buy, and i finally gathered the cash to buy the car i'd been drooling over since its first pics were released, and my first 4wd buggy.

I have raced it 3 times so far, all 3 were trophy races, and all at 3 different tracks.
The first race, completely box stock, 2nd place A finish. The second and third races I finished 6th and 5th in the A-mains, and I will say there was more competition then the first race. With minimal changes to the kit setup I like how the car handles.

As much as this is a great car, ive had a couple issues with it.
1) The sway bar ball cup links- This issue was stated earlier. At least 3 times I have had the sway bar ball cup pop off the arm mounted ball stud. When this happens it alters the cars performance drastically. This issue led to my second issue.
2) Front driveshaft- On my third race day during qualifying i had the sway bar cup pop off and made the car handle awful, leading to a series of large wipeouts for the remainder of the heat. In this time, I bent the front driveshaft, which later snapped, and man was I mad considering parts support, and I will say this breakage is in part driver error.

This is where it gets good! A fellow racer that runs Team C had a spare centre 75mm driveshaft from his 4wd buggy (the shafts with the Team C buggy slipper setup, not the new centre diff set up) and it fit perfectly in the axle housing and the diff output!! One of the attached pictures shows the new driveshaft in the buggy. It is the thicker one on the left, and appears to be stronger than the HB stock one I have asked him to order me some spares.

After hearing of all the spur gear issues, I check my mesh every run, with no sign of wear after 15+ packs. My mesh is quite tight to try to preserve the spur gear, and my motor temps are around 135 on a 6.5t.

I have only been racing for two years, and getting better every weekend, and this buggy is fantastic!! Very durable for what ive put it through lol.

Thats it..

Can you post up the part # for the TeamC driveshaft? Could be useful for others that get into a similar situation and needing a spare part to get them through the race day. Thanks.

Forget getting them through the day… If it fits perfectly, might as well replace it and keep the stock ones as spares.

As for the mesh being relatively tight, I say loosen it a hair to decrease motor temp juuuuust a tad. Another thing a tighter mesh does is build excessive heat which will soften up the molecules and softens up the plastic which can contribute to a failed spur.

The guy that gave me the driveshaft is trying to find the part number for it. As soon as he finds it I will post it.

As for the spur gear mesh, i found the spur gear to be slightly out of round, not sure if anyone else noticed this with theirs. The way I have mine set is to be proper at the loosest side, and slightly tight on the tight side of the spur. The gear looks brand new after 3 race days and some practicing and temps are reasonable in comparison to fellow drivers 4 wheelers.
