Default spur alternative

I just ran a few packs through the buggy with my ae spur conversion that cygnus came up with. Worked perfect. Ran a brand new 21t pinion just in case. Temps were fine and mesh looks good after 2 packs.

I wonder how many people's real cars have recalls on them even though they themselves never experienced that particular issue? People crack me up.....lol

I'm hoping Tower has enough this time to fill my backorder from 4/16
If not, I'll just sale my electrics and tires(RSX and gen 2 6.5)(dirtwebs with new foams)

What's the actual count on people with spur gear issues? If I recall correctly, there were no more than 5 or 6 who posted in this thread.

The spur gear is the weakest link in the drivetrain. I fully expect it to fail. The when depends on who set the mesh, how you drive and the traction available. I think this "situation" is being blown WAY out of proportion. T.Deguzman is likely refraining from jumping in on this for fear of the shitstorm that would cause. Chill out, parts are coming, and I'm sure they'll get the "defect," or whatever you'd like to call it rectified. It's summertime any way. Just make sure kits and parts are available come early September.

Well im happy to report that after a little over 2 months of running. I have had only 2 issues with the car, and one of them was not a spur gear....

I bent a front CVD hitting a SC full punched on the straight.
And have popped off the ball cup shock caps several times.

Bent back CVD with no issues.
Replaced ball cup caps with B5M shock caps and they are holding up fine.

I know people are having issues out there and I might know the cause. But Im no expert in the molding of parts process and the effects of them.

What I have seen from mine is that when setting the mesh. I set the mesh then rotate the spur all the way around checking the mesh each time I rotate the spur. There are times when I would have a tight mesh in one section vs. the other. This might be caused by the process of how the mold is being injected and could come up with a not so true spur.

I have seen this many times with many cars and many different manufactures. It is very hard to make sure that this process is 110% accurate every single time.

This is why I always check the mesh so that at least 70% of the mesh is as good as it gets, and the last 30% might be tight. After a few runs. I check it again. Most of the time the pinion will cut the 30% so that it is not so tight. Yes the spur gear will make more noise in the beginning. But after several packs this will be less of a problem.

If you set your mesh on a spot that will be tight, then the mesh will be 30% meshed based off that check, and 70% even looser which could cause the gear to skip. Especially under braking.

Again this is only what I have seen, and what I have seen with many cars from any number of manufactures. And that is why on all my cars I check the mesh on the whole spur gear and not just one section.

Yes, HB could work to try to fix this and they might. But this is a common problem with any car. Maybe not all of them, but most.

I hope this helps the guys that are having issues.

Again this is a great car. And I know as I was one of the few that was able to test it when it still was in prototype stages. When I tested it, it was pretty much the exact same as you guys see it today.

I still believe in this product even if I don't work for HPI/HB anymore. And that has to tell you guys something. I even went out of my way to get back on the team from a company that let me go, that tells you more.

Just my 2 cents.

I think they fit well but not perfect. The thread pitch was said to be slight bit different by a couple people in here so it cross threads slightly. Just keep an eye on them to ensure a gap doesn't build and they should be ok.
