I agree, though Kyosho quality plus some minor layout improvements may suffice for many people.

The 4wd field is beginning to look like the most interesting and diverse class out there.

Kyosho, Durango, Associated, Xray, Schumacher all have solid kits and HPI, Team C, Losi and others are making ones as well.

Every indication is that the car does have gear diffs. At the very least, the diff cases are different from the ZX-5.

Tebo had this at the recent AKA Off Road Kings race at NorCal Hobbies. It looked pretty good, and the things he was talking about were things I will definitely appreciate as a club level racer (like, making it easier to drive and more stable so it can also be pushed harder).

Yup bit like the TLR and so forth. I doubt any of the manufactures will put a car into production that doesn't do well at the WCs

I too got to see the proto at the same race as Justpoet,

With not much to go off of, I was really hoping to see the car up close.

I was a bit skeptic, but I'm pretty sold with all the little things Jared was kind enough to share about the car.

A couple of big things to me stood out:

Diffs:
For that race Jared was using the Ball Diffs , though he did say that the Gear Diffs had been tried. Didn't say which ones, but whatever they were, they weren't holding up for some reason, so the Ball Diffs went back in. I was told that once they get the Gear Diffs the way they want them, they'd probably be an option. Stating that Gear Diffs did seem to be the way for a wheeler. Though still early to say for sure, the option of both diffs is a huge plus.

Battery type and location:
Jared was using a Shorty on one side of the chassis. Shorty packs do seem to be the new standard pack of choice, so I wasn't too surprised to see it in the chassis. I was surprised to know that the over all left to right chassis balance was a lot better when using the Shorty pack vs. the traditional Saddle's. Only about 5g off from a perfect balance, whereas it's about 30g off with the traditional battery setup/location. Pretty interesting to me.

Outside of the Alum chassis and a few other small things, it did appear to currently share a lot of parts with the ZX5, which I would hope that will still be the case or option to do as I have a good amount of arms and such already. Though stated as still a prototype, it did have a lot more production look to it. If not close to production, it sure looks good. When asked when we may see it, Jared said he wasn't sure yet as there were/are still things he'd like to see done better. I told him that I'd expect to see the new car a lot sooner once they win the Worlds with it. Got a laugh from Jared out of it.

Good looking car and I'll for sure have to really consider picking it up once it finally arrives in full production trim.

Well hope to see it soon. I also hope that it carries over the wishbones, shocks etc.

Never had a prob with the standard Kyosho diffs in my FS2.

FS2 going up for sale, but the question of what spares to hold back!!

I had the fortune of talking with a few other folks with the new 4wd prototype. The battery position appears to be an option, simply by where you put the strap down mounts (for saddles or for shorty). It was suggested that one is better on high bite and the other is better on low/medium bite. The other thing that was very clear (and you can also see in the build picture above), is that the steering mechanism is improved, more similar to how the RB6 does it.

The last thing that was mentioned and I thought extremely interesting...was that when they tried the new 4wd for the first time, they simply put the same setup on it as the zx5 setup they'd been running, and immediately thought the car was a lot better, without even trying to dial in the new setup yet.
