Default Reverse Motor Direction

I got asked this question at the track the other day and had not really given it any thought. If my motor is spinning in the correct direction I dont mess with it. Does it matter how we reverse the motor direction? 3 ways I know to do it:

Motor Direction Normal or Reverse in my TEKIN ESC
Throttle Normal or Reverse on my M11X
Swap motor wires

Does it make a difference?

Do it via the ESC if your using sensored. Unsensored you can do via wire swap.

Also I am not too sure about the theory but people say you should avoid running motors in reverse. I think it only applies in stock class where you apply mechanical timing though. I never run it in mod classes or open ones so does not matter.

You do NOT want to do it by reversing the throttle channel on the transmitter because most ESCs apply power to the motor differently depending on whether it is giving forward throttle or reverse throttle.

If you reverse the in the TX, you would be having the ESC you the reverse throttle parameters when driving forward. Some ESCs only apply partial throttle in reverse, so your car would be slow. This exact thing happened to someone I race with. He as using the exact same setup as me and his car was slow and couldn't figure out why. We looked at the lights on the ESC and saw the reverse LED lit up when he gave it forward throttle.

You will always choose the motor rotation in the esc. Doing it any other way will only hamper the performance.

Some cars can also have the diffs flipped in their housings to use normal rotation also: HB Ve8, D8, D12, etc etc.

If it is non-sensored, a motor wire swap will not hinder performance.
