Default Thoughts/Opinions on 550 2-pole motors in 4x4SCT

I have been running an rx8/4600 now 4300HD and I am just getting tired of puffing $$$$$$$ batteries etc. And thats with the current limiter set to 55. Anyway, I have a few fellow racers that run 550 2-poles and love them. I've driven 1 of them for a few laps, and it is smoother than any 4-pole I've ever driven. My only concern/question is, do you ever feel like you are lacking power or getting beat due to the 2-pole motor. I have a few Orion R10pro's lying around, so I was thinking about putting that in with the 2-pole. Just looking for some opinions from people that do or have ran the 2-poles

I run an r10 pro with a Novak 550 4.5 in my sc10 4x4 and love it. It runs cool and no more puffed packs. I felt It has more power then my tekin. I was running the rx8 and 4000 pro 4.

The fastest guy at our track runs a SC10 4x4 with a Reedy 5.0 Turn and he does not lack any power. We race medium sized indoor clay 15-16 second laps if that gives you an idea. He is a lap or two above everyone else but that is his skill and probably not the truck. So yes a 550 2 pole is very capable.

I love mine I have the reedy sonic 4.5 550 can. Super smooth and more usable power than the 4 poles and I haven't puffed a battery in 5 months

Best way to go imo. I ran a Reedy Sonic 4.0 in a SCTE for months. Much smoother and less tire spin, win win.

You shouldn't be puffing packs if your esc is setup correctly, gearing, and you're batteries are decent.

What are you running for batteries? Gearing? Esc settings?

Reedy 550 4.5 Sonic wins all the big event where I race..

The 4 poles are just as smooth,if you can't win with one ?

Not gona win with the other either.

I used to run a trinity 550 4.5 in my sc10 4x4 & it ran great but sometimes at the end of the race it lacked a little in punch. Now I'm running a tenshock 5200 550 in my Tekno & it's a beast! No packs puffed with either my nanotechs or smc packs.

Reedy sonic 4.5t is still by far my favorite 4wd sct motor. I must might even throw it back in for the out door session. The 4.5 Orion is pretty good also.

Local kid at our track runs the thunder power 4.0 turn 550 2 pole motor. He is flippin' fast. I think he races for TLR but not sure. He's racing the Losi 2.0 scte.

RX8 with Pro4 4300HD. They are Fantom 7200mah 70c batteries. Geared at 16/40. Current limiter set at 55. Timing profile is what comes stock on the esc. This is on a medium to large outdoor track

I have been really happy with my Orion VST 4.0T 550 2 Pole motors. I run a little boost in my R10 and gear low. I have a smooth bottom, but all the power I need on the top end. Running at super high grip (high amp draw) and hot races like Cactus and the Shootout, I haven't had any issues, and temp stay below 180F. Indoors, I am only around 140F and it's quick for sure.
