Hot Motor
I have a Traxxas Rustler with a 5800kv brushless, running 11.1v 3s 5400 20c, not sure what pinion gear but have a 90t spur gear. Motor gets very hot, any suggestions on gear ratio's, or maybe need to get 7.4v 2s, I need help just getting into electric, always been into nitro, any help would be GREAT
Thanks

What 5800kv motor do you have? Is it 3s compatible?
My guess is no. That's a really high kv motor even for 2s.
Stadium trucks are very light and do not need much power to run fast, not sure I have seen a ST running on 3s before... must do wheelies down the entire block!

I run a 2S Shorty Pack 60C with a 3900kv motor geared at 26/87 and it screams, i can wheelie on the straights with no problem.
I would check your gearing and also check to see if the motor can handle a 3S, I dont run a 3S in anything I race.

+1 on that, the 3s seem to make everything work harder, thus the heat probes, and breaking drivetrain, so I've made it a no no for me lol

How hot is it getting? Hot to touch is going to be over 110 degrees, which is nothing. You need a temp gun. 160 is fine. 180+ depending on brand and you many start having issues.

its a dynemite, and yes it won't stop doing wheelies, I bought the truck off ebay got a really great deal

I have a 19/90 so 2s would be better what gears should I run, I'm a Nitro guy just starting to get into electric

Its a Dynemite fused brushless motor

There are rc gearing calculators that you can find on Google to figure that out or post the question in the rustler thread. I'm not familiar with that truck.
Maybe someone can chime in that looks at this thread. You may need to change the spur and the pinion using such a high kv motor with a 3s lipo as you may not be able to fit a small enough pinion to get your gearing correct with the stock spur.
I think rustler thread will be you best resource. Easiest to find by Googling rctech rustler than trying with the rctech search tool... not the best.
