Default ESC Motor questios

Im very new to electric and im putting together a 2wd SCT to race with and for my son to use as a basher when hes here. Being that i have a budget for this build i was considering the EZRUN Combo SCT Waterproof for 1/8 & 1/10 (C Series) with the EZRUN-3656 4000kv motor. I choose this mainly cause it was water proof (for the kid bashing) and says for SCT (dad racing). At the track im gonna race at we are only allowed 2s lipo. What size 2s lipo would i need and any brands recommended that wont break the bank. Also, what nimh would work ok for my son to bash with. I have a 8.4 volt 5000mah traxxas battery w/ charger i picked up cheap. Thanks any info would be helpful.

i suggest lipos from hobbypartz.com they say they are the best lipos in the world. they are quite cheap also but not the cheapest.
hobbyking.com are the cheapest lipo batteries you can get. they are very good quality also and they have a good warranty.

if you need cheap lipos i suggest hobbypartz or hobbyking

what about a decent but inexpensive charger? And would the 8.4 nimh even move this motor?

The 8.4 nimh will work fine for bashing, but, understand the nimh batteries die off at a fairly rapid rate. Lipos tend to have a much more linear rate of decline in power.

One issue that comes to mind is; usually a basher doesn't make a good racer and vice versa. Just MHO, but, thought I'd share it.

this is a decent little charger. There are better and there are cheaper, but this will get the job done for you.

Since you have NIMH and want to get a lipo. NEVER charge the lipo in the same way you charge NIMH unless you like starting packs on fire.

what do you mean charge the lipo like a nimh? That charger you posted looks like it will charge both types. Should i get a lipo charging bag?

Thanks Wilcat1971 for all your help. Its very much appreciated.

the charger has modes. if you charge your numh and then charge your lipo and forget to set the mode to lipo, then /house burns down. lol yes, get a lipo bag, it is safer that way. but still never leave a lipo charging unattended. the bag just helps you get it out o the house before the house burns down. check out some lipo fire videos on utube, lol.
