Default kv guide for motors?

Is there a guide or conversion factor for kv equivalency to motor turns? Is there a standard benchmark from manufacturer to manufacturer?

Specifically I am wondering how many kv is a 13.5t motor.


I did search before I posted and could not find a thread that addressed this. Thank you in advance.

There is no exact conversion.

kv is a function of flux between the rotor and stator poles of the motor and the turns. Flux is dependent on a bunch of mechanical factors and materials in the motor design. For a single motor design there is a constant kv/turn. Between mfg's, not so much.

Are the 'turn' ratings consistent across the board or is one manufacturer's 13.5 equivalent to another's 10.5 for instance? If so, how do big races maintain a level playing field in non-mod races?

One manufacturers 13.5 may not be the same as another's but for big races the rules will typically specify use of ROAR approved motors. To be ROAR Approved, the motor must meet certain specs that tends to level the playing field.

...and then you have a manufacturer that is alleged to have made a motor that used wire exceeding the specs, was generally faster than others of the same wind and had its ROAR approval withdrawn, resulting in a class action suit against ROAR.
